General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

Since I'll be undergoing fertility treatment starting in Jan, I'll stop fasting while that's happening, although I think I'll still stick to lower carb where possible and definitely remembering that I don't need to snack every 10 seconds of the day!
I'm hoping I spend 2014 maintaining my accomplishments of 2013. I've decided to stay at this weight (or wherever I am by Xmas), instead of trying to reach my initial goal, which was just a random number anyway. I'm happy where I am now. I'm at a healthy BMI. I want to focus on running and toning up rather than a number on the scale. I'll keep an eye on that daily, of course; I think that's essential to maintaining. I'm worried I've gotten a bit too obsessive about a number that never meant anything in the first place.

Phew. It feels good to say that out loud, so to speak.
Personally I would like to get under 70kg before the end of 2013 and remain there during 2014. Whether I can move to 6:1 or stay with 5:2 remains to be seen.

However, my main objective is to support my partner whose BMI is 40+ so by doing 5:2 together it will be achievable to get his under 30 during 2014.
I'm going into January for the first time not contemplating 'going on a diet' which is bound to fail as the year goes on. I shall eat what I like, within reason, fast two or three days a week to head towards my target which I hope to reach sometime mid year. I shall up my exercise which has dropped off this year with holidays and sheer laziness, and rejoice that come the 1st Jan., if I want cake, I shall eat it!!
I am in pursuit of that waist height ratio...tends to be trying. And I really hope to lead many others to this WOL...especially my OH.
Hi Everybody

I plan to be way more committed to 5:2 than I have been so far starting after the Wedding next week end.

I look forward to more of your wonderful support and encouragement and to read about all your successful stories.

Great work Juliana.

cheers Maggie.
@MaryAnne yoku dekimashita ! Well done on coming to that realisation. You have got to where you are meant to be! How wonderful!
And, for me, I'll keep on keeping on. I may reach the magic figure of BMI 25 during 2014. I hope I do. I hope to get back into walking regularly.
I'm sticking to 4:3 until I reach my interim goal, which is currently tracking to be end Feb. Then I'm going to re-evaluate what my final goal should be based on my body fat %, which I want to get to 25% and also how my face looks
Mine is to properly address and overcome my emotional eating so that I can be more mindful about what, and how much, I'm putting in my body!! Really I just want feel well, be healthy and look it!
For me, it's getting to 85kg. That's still in the overweight BMI but if I go down to what I'm supposed to I'll have skin hanging off me like a shar pei puppy without any or the redeeming cuteness.

It was bad enough with Thanksgiving last week when I caught sight of a few American tourists eyeing off my turkey jowl.

I haven't been 85kg in a few decades...I really don't know how long it's been and for me, that will mean a total loss of 32kg or 70.5lbs. That'll do.

So for today, at least, it's 18 down and 14 to go and next Christmas will be a slim one.
Newt year will be my big 4 0 year so, first goal is not to freak out and NOT read how your body and health change when you hit that age

I'll stick to 5:2, 4:3, 16:8 and even 6:1 and go with my instinct as it won't be to lose weight anymore but to maintain. It's a weird thing to know I couldn't stop even if I had a choice. It's part of my routine now and I feel like crap if I don't fast at least once a week

I'll stick to the exercises as well and try to do more. Will make a new attempt at the 30 day shred (stopped after 10 days) and try to go back to my dance roots (I took 15 years dance lessons in my young age.....)

And I will defenitly stick here as it's a really cozy place with lots of lovely people. What is the most surprising to me is that it's the first time ever I don't spend most of my time with men (all of my friends but one are men)
Wow, Pia, just looked at your progress tracker, what an amazing amount of weight you've lost, you must be so thrilled!

Thanks for this question, Julianna. I'm expecting to carry on losing slowly, hoping to reach my original target by next summer (August!), although I've felt confident enough recently to adjust my target down a notch to 10 st 4, which is a weight I don't think I've been at since I was a teenager and even then I only managed it through eating nothing but cottage cheese and ryvita! Needless to say I didn't stay at that weight for long!

I wouldn't have guessed when I started this in May that I'd have lost a stone by now. I'm definitely committed to it and a big part of it for me is the fun and cameraderie of this forum, so huge thanks to @Moogie for setting it up and to everyone for being so supportive and such fun.

@wildmissus love your story about the chocs. I had a similar experience recently when I bought a small pack of choc digestives to enjoy with my OH one evening as a treat, put them in the tin and then genuinely forgot about them!

@wmr309 all the best with supporting your OH, I've been doing this together with mine and it's made it so much more achievable and fun. No doubt you'll both have great success.

Good luck everyone and here's to a healthy & successful 2014! :clover: :clover:
I've really enjoyed the first two years of being 40 something. Fitter now than ever.

I'm going to continue with 16:8, it is easy. Thinking of training to be a personal trainer specialising in exercise for older adults...life is interesting just now.
Thanks Juliana - you've got a real knack for getting me to focus on my goals and that is such a great thing! You may have a future in life coaching?! :-)

I'm really loving reading everyone's reflections from 2013 and aspirations for 2014. Incredibly inspiring!

For me, I'm hoping - along with quite a few of you it seems, to join the maintenance team in early 2014 and continue the healthier relationship with food that the WOE is giving me. I am expecting this to be a real challenge. Maintenance has always been my downfall.

Already looking forward to reading about you all achieving your goals, and hopefully sharing my success with you too!
