Anyone Else Cutting the Carbs?
04 Jun 2014, 16:48
Well, my husband and I have finally admitted to ourselves that carbs really make us eat more. The real wake-up call was the other night after we polished off a lot of fried rice...and were both starving an hour later.

We've both agreed to cut the carbs, loosely following South Beach Diet structure. I feel this will help us stick to 16:8 a whole lot easier, and I actually enjoy lower carb eating. I've done it in the past.

Anyone else find carbs make them so hungry?
There is a low carb thread, worth reading

Ballerina x
Yes i love carbs too,but starting to get the message, they are totally addictive and i just want more,more,more..and they are playing havoc on my feed days.
Can we ever get free of this addiction given that we need SOME carbs,so we can't go completely cold turkey? ? Xx
Oh and is sourdough bread less addictive and worth swapping to? @carieoates?
@PennyForthem? Could i buy one sourdough loaf a week and make it last or would i still be chased by the carb monster? X
I have a problem with them too. I love bread and cake. I have bought some rice cakes to replace my lunchtime baguette on feed days. I am hoping I can give up my breakfast toast and have bought some maize (corn) and honey cereal to replace my fruit and fibre. I may go back to porridge for some days. Sounds odd I know but I am not entirely clear on what is on the carb list. It is not anything I have dealt with before. Will have to do some research I guess. Will also look out the carb thread as I am sure that will help.
Me too Bobsie@bobshouse! Despite all the years of calorie counting, i am a bit of a virgin when it comes to low carb! xx
I only know points so lots to learn.
@bobshouse I have a horrible feeling that the corn and honey cereal will be higher in carbs and especially sugars than the fruit and fibre! A better breakfast is eggs or ham or cheese with just a small slice of toast, or a fried breakfast, or smoked salmon with cream cheese in a lettuce "wrap". I have to say though that the reason in had to stop Atkins was that I found low carb breakfasts difficult. Now I skip breakfast it's easy!

I doubt sourdough will be much better than ordinary bread re cravings but it might be a bit.

I am planning to write an article on basic nutrition such as what foods are high carb etc soon!

The low carb thread is here: fastonbury-glamping-grounds-f34/2014-low-carbers-tent-t10527.html
Thanks Caro@carorees x but damn, thats bad news bout the sourdough :(
Just watching a sobering thing on tv...they're having to make larger coffins and also having to ask coffin bearers to sign insurance disclaimers, because so often the deceased are now very large and funeral directors are having a job giving some folk a dignified funeral :(
Very much looking forward to your article Carorees, hoping I'm doing this right :0.
Thanks will look forward to the article! Will have a go at skipping breakfast. It is major for me as it is my favourite meal. I love my cereal and toast. I guess the reason I found it hard doing 16:8 on feed days was carb withdrawal. Will try that again.
@Bobshouse.. I stopped eating cereal ages ago coz i am so addicted to it..could just eat bowl after bowl of it..Stopped corn flakes years ago coz after a corn flake brekkie i was starving all day
Toast..so hard to give that up toes..its so comforting isnt it and so cheering
I havent any bread in,and have felt really unhappy all day about that fact!
Big inner battle not to go out and buy a loaf x
I have a packet of gluten-free sugar-free oatcakes for emergency carb cravings, nice with butter and cheese :0)
I think the Gf Sf oatcakes may be the way forward@azureblue
I do love nibbling them..xx

Sourdough is slightly better; certainly a matter of degree at least as far as glycemic index* is concerned:

In my experience here (with ADF) since the start, and considerable scientific reading since, controlling carbs is hands-down the most effective key to weight control and better health.

*= a relative measure of the tendency of sugars and starches in various foods to trigger an insulin response.
