Long term and short term goals?
09 Mar 2013, 16:55
Hi everyone!

I'm fairly new to this but I have very specific goals that I am working towards. I have quite a bit to lose to get back to a healthy size (my previous size) and to be happy with myself again. I don't want to get disheartened as I know I am going to be on a long journey to get to where I want to be so I have set myself short and long term targets/goals to reach. First goal is to drop a dress size by May. I really hope this achievable! I am exercising and am confident so far as I seem to be losing inches already! Then by September hopefully another dress size too! I am not concentrating much on weight as I find being a slave to the scale only serves to depress me and I have found that getting back in to my slim clothes is what spurs me on the most! So do you think My goals are achievable or am I being unrealistic? And what are your goals?
Absolutely! You seem to have exactly the right attitude to ensure success.
Keep coming to the forum for inspiration, encouragement and education and I'm sure you'll do great.
Good luck.
My short term goal is to achieve sustainable weight loss and long term to get from being a size 20-22 (UK) to a 12.
Me too!

Great attitude to have, it's always best to be realistic and honest to yourself.

I have similar goals as you too which i think are acheiveable. Tomorrow is my fast day, although i started tonight at 5.30pm.

Goodluck, try adding a little exercise into your daily routine and keep checking this site for support.

Short term goal is to get as much weight off as I can for Mid June and a motorbike holiday to Rome. 12 weeks after that I am 50 so another dress size would be good. Then drop to 5:2 and hunker down for some slow steady losses for a while up to my stepsons wedding in August of 2015.

I think it's really encouraging to have something on the horizon to aim for. It breaks the whole thing up into manageable chunks.
I think your exactly right!
I weighed 11.10lb after Xmas, and that, plus a bad back shocked me into action. I was calorie counting and lost 1/2 stone but got bored, then I read about 5.2 and though what have I got to loose but pounds! I started 5.2 early feb weighing 11.4lb
I now weigh 10.10lb I'm 5.4" and now wear a UK size 12 comfortably with some room to spare. I was a tight size 14 at Xmas.

So my new goals are
By Easter 10.7lb
By July 10.2lb would be amazing. Then maintain on 6.1 I hope.

Fingers crossed for that and for all of you.
Thanks everyone! So much positivity with the 5:2 dieters! I have no doubt that we will all reach our goals!
My goal is to simply do my two fast days a week. The rest will take care of itself.
Hi, I am a newbie here.

My short term goal is to turn the 5:2 into a habit.

Long term goal is to reach my goal size/weight and in the process learn to eat like a "normal" person in that I think "mmm, I am hungry, what would be good" then eat it mindfully and stop when I am not hungry anymore. All while maintaining a healthy weight.

Not asking too much! I think that having the 5:2 is a great way to learn those skills.
I have the exact same goals as you too! :) and I think it's completely realistic, good luck!!
Short term goal: get my waist measurement down to half my height (32 inches); medium term goal: get my waist back down to what it was in my youth (28 inches); long term goal: keep the weight off by making fasting a permanent part of my life.

Can't put it any better than Caroline - so I second this exactly
My short term goal is to be at a weight where if I see my reflection in passing, I recognise myself.

My medium term goal is to be 1 stone lighter by the time I get married in August (7lbs down, 7 to go)

My long term goal is to be at a weight where my health problems are fixed, as I have a muscular problem brought on my years of being overweight, and a hiatus hernia with the same root cause
My shortest term goal was to lose the weight I gained over the holidays.Done.

My second short term goal is to lose 6 pounds (or more) to fit nicely into the dresses I am wearing as Matron of Honour in my daughter's wedding July 6 and my 50th birthday July 7th.

I don't really have a medium term goal but I guess it would be to lose the next stone.

My long term goal is to lose another 26 pounds to be at the high end of the healthy bmi/weight for my age/height. I would love to be back at my so called ideal weight but I am too practical for that.

The ultimate goal is to make this woe permanent, and to keep the weight off, without having to worry every day about what I eat. I just want to stay healthy and not inherit the problems my mom has with her health.
