I returned from Egypt with suspected Amoebic Dysentary & ate very little on holiday in trying to control it with taking Imodium until getting medical care. But I was very grateful for my earlier practice in fasting because it re-assured me that I could manage on mainly liquids, which did include soups as well as water. On getting back to Cairo with my husband who was upset by a rogue lunch item & vomiting, I joined in later, I finally asked his Doctor & was prescribed Flagyl, three injections & a variety of other things. I have now seen my GP & had my medicine updated & I am awaiting test results. But I suspect I would have been much more anxious without having already had the experience of my 5:2 fasting. Not that I would recommend losing weight through Dysentary but I am hopefully on the mend now.

On holiday in india a few years ago, after weeks of eating in street stalls and cheap, local places I was on a day coach tour and we stopped at a "tourist" hotel/restaurant, massively overpriced, for India, that is and I came down with a very bad case of Delhi Belly.. nothing eemed to help, until a seasoned traveller made me drink a cup of hot black tea, with tons of sugar and salt. Tasted revolting, but did the trick!

Hope you get better soon.

Oh my! Get well soon!
One of the reasons why I wouldn't travel to countries outside Europe is my fear of eating/drinking something and getting the squirts!!!

My mum says that "there is no better diet than food poisoning"!!!
Hope your'e feeling better soon, Isis. Rather a drastic way to lose weight though, isn't it!
Thank you everyone for your good wishes & I am feeling better now but still taking medication & awaiting test results. This certainly isn't something I would wish anyone to have but at least I am home & eating food I have control over now. I will be pleased to recover from this but TML your Mum is right "there is no better diet than food poisoning"! & hopefully I will keep off the weight I have lost as my reward.
