Dreading tomorrows fast
15 Apr 2013, 20:02
Well its my 2nd fast tomorrow and I am not really looking forward to it. I had a terrible headache the day after on my first fast so I think I am worried about feeling that way weds. I am going to drink a lot more to try and counter act this.

I have a ready meal (400 cals) bought so will have some extra veg with it for my dinner. I have felt quite tired since starting this diet and I am not sure why as been sleeping fine, perhaps too much. I started last Fri and fasted then ate normally, and then have tomorrow as my fast day. Maybe its just my body adjusting as I have been doing slimming world.

Are you doing this to lose weight?

I found the headaches lasted a few weeks just to warn you, I assume it was my body adjusting as I haven't suffered since, I also suffered restless legs (not sure what that was about), also don't get that anymore! I did find paracetamol worked rather than soldiering on and suffering. There is light at the end of the tunnel though so find some stubbornness, it's what saw me through. That and seeing results on the scale, although not massive loss all at once like other diets, but the scales were heading the right direction even when they shifted up and down, the trend was down and still is 15 weeks in. Good luck and I hope you have a headache free day :0)

The first few fasts are tough and hateful. I didn't get headaches, but a lot of people seem to. I got a tight jaw, palpitations, nausea. It all disappeared after about 4 weeks / 8 fasts so I advocate everyone should stick at it for at least that long - unless the negatives are really unbearable/ severe of course. Drinking lots of water is a must.

Give yourself something nice to look forward to - not food obviously - like a tv programme you want to watch or a pampering session like a long bath or something. Should help you relax and avoid the tension which probably contributes to the headaches.

Best wishes and hope you find the second one easier - most of us did!

Oh, and an options hot choc before bed has been the best addition to my fast day! Rounds off the day nicely and something to look forward to!

The second fast is way better than the first one. Your body adapts pretty quickly. Don't dread tomorrow. If you need to use a painkiller for your headache, do. Also, if you need a few more calories on your first few fasts to help you get through, don't worry about that either.

I bet you'll find the second fast is a hundred percent better than the first!

Thanks Caroline - that has helped ALOT! I have painkillers ready in my bag!

Mariposa - I have some options hot choc in the cupboard so will look forward to that before bed - not with all milk tho like I normally have!!

If you are doing this just to lose weight, then perhaps you should try spreading your calories around the day.
Also, I found that I get headaches when I lack of caffeine or carbs. On your fast day, did you not eat/drink something that you usually do every day?

Hi Claire

Im doing my fourth fast today (did 4.3 in first week) this is my second week and plan on fasting today and Thursday. I felt the exact same way as you I didnt feel bad on my actual fast day but the day after I felt really yuck! by the 3rd fast I felt so much better and would even go as far as saying I have strangely enjoyed today! more energy concentration etc. Try not to be hard on yourself I went slightly over 500 cal on all fast days and still managed to lose 3lb.

Good luck for tomorrow xxx

I'm fasting tom too which not particularly looking forward to it will be my 3rd fast, last week I had slightly extra calories but I am gradually weaning myself off breakfast cereal and just going to have a bit of fruit this week for breakfast.

I am going to have some fresh pineapple at lunch. I usually drink quite abit of coffee and only had one on the fast day so perhaps it was that...maybe I should have a couple of black coffees (yukk and gradually reduce my caffeine intake in general
