Hi@Ieramul, I know Beany is glad to have you join her challenge. Good luck . Oh, I tried the food combining also. 5:2 is SO much better!! I generally am an everything in moderation gal myself. Although after 20 years of M.M./CFS I have tried just about everything going to see if I could affect it in a positive way.
After noticing on 5:2 that I felt better eating fewer carbs, and seeing that some doctors believe wheat and grains are inflammatory, I though I'd give it a go. Seems to helping me and I'm thrilled! Still a long ways to go to be healthy, but I will take all the improvements I can get. :-)
Avoiding carbs on a fast day sure does give you more calories for filling foods. And not having lots of carbs the night before fasting always has helped me with cravings. I am currently investigating grains free cookies etc. found one absolutely sinful chocolate cookie already. That is where Paleo diet sites come in handy, as they don't do grains. But they also don't do dairy, butter or sugar. I am really not ready for that. :-) and you are right about home cooking being the way to go. No gluten free junk food for me, home made and yummy.
Anxious to here how you get on with your challenge. Good luck. Phyl

Always when you begin a new diet, you should listen to your body

Hi @Garblad6, welcome!! And you are absolutely right about listening to your body. That is one thing I love about 5:2, you learning your bodies signals on genuine hunger and cravings, what makes you feel good vs not so good. It's great! Good luck with your fasting. Phyl

@MountainMyst Moderation is definitely the Magic word of any WOE.
Unless I had a medical condition or known intolerance (other rhan weight gain  ) I would never cease eating bread and potatoes. They are my favourite food. I grew up with two meals a day containg bread and the third potatoes, pasta or rice. I think I generally tolerate carbs well but I still want to reduce carbs to one - at most two meals a day to counter insulin spikes and hence sugar craving.

Hi@Ieramul, I know what you mean about growing up on them, me too. Here in the southern U.S. We didn't have a lot of meals without potatoes, and biscuits or cornbread. :-) they are cheap and filling, not to mention yummy. I would never have given them up if I wan't needing to find a way to curb the inflammatory arthritis, and it seems to be lowering my cholesterol. I still eat potatoes occasionally, since discovering bangers and mash, my hubby requires them every week or so. :-)
Sounds like you have a good plan going for yourself as far a curbing the cravings. good luck and enjoy your carbs, every bite when you have them. :-) fast day for me today, shouldn't have thought about bangers and mash;-). Wishing you a great day! Phyl
