Headache AFTER fast day...?
13 Apr 2013, 07:21
Well I started this diet yesterday on a fast day and it went okay, I had 467 cals! I went to bed and managed to sleep, I woke up hungry in the night but went back to sleep easily enough. This morning me and hubby (he is doing the diet to) woke up with headaches, mine feels quite bad. I have just had some Weetabix for breakfast so I am hoping the headache will wear off soon enough. May have a crumpet too!

Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks in advance!

I had headache too after my first day. I've only done four but have found that drinking a bit more helped. But not too much or you'll be up all night needing the loo. I try not to drink too much after 8pm. X

Thanks for the reply, its good to know we aren't the only ones, I drank about 4 glasses of water and had a green tea. Will drink more on the next fast day!

Hi Claire. Yep lots more to drink. 5 drinks doesn't seem nearly enough. Usually we get most of our fluid from food so when fasting we need loads more liquid to make it up.

Yes, I drink at least 2 litres of water on a fast day, any less and I get the headache, I don't know if anyone else has found this but as time goes on my body seems to have adjusted and I don't get those initial symptoms now.

I suffered a really bad headache the day after my first fast too I think its quite common. Make sure you drink enough water as you are not getting as much as you usually would from food. My 3rd fast was much easier and I felt a lot better so it does improve quickly

The day after a fast day is still part of the fast for several hours after you eat because the first carbs you eat go towards replenishing your glycogen stores, so you're body still needs to burn a fair bit of fat. In the early days of following this diet, your body is likely not to be too good at fat burning (out of practice) this causes the headaches and many other of the problems of the first few fasts. Once your body becomes used to fat burning, the headaches etc fade away. I find I don't have to drink any more than normal on fast days now, but it made a big difference during the first few weeks.
