Benefits & Side Effects

It's my second fast day in a row and I've had an intense metallic and salty taste in my mouth. Anyone else experience this? I wonder if it means my breath is bad lol?
I haven’t had it for some time now, but yes I did get a taste a bit like that when I first started fasting. I would have described it as a salty, cheesy taste a bit like cheese n onion crisps only not as nice.

Sorry to say I was told by my wife I did get bad breath when I first started
Oooh my!............the only time I had a metallic taste in my mouth was when I was pregnant!!!
Wow - that would be a miracle indeed - I've had a hysterectomy lol!
That's a side effect of ketosis - you're using fat and levels of ketones in your blood are increased leading to the taste. A good sign if you're looking to lose weight.
Try not to eat the cutlery on fast day!!!

Ketosis - now that is good news!

Lol  !
Being serious this time. Your question and PhilT's response made me google ketosis side effects. I have noticed that around about lunch time on a fast day I feel woosey/off balance. Another side effect of ketosis is dizziness which is great news and also means I now know what is causing that strange feeling.
Just be careful not to get ketosis due to fasting or low carbs mixed up with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) when googling. DKA = bad, fasting ketosis = good!
I mentioned that to my friend who is doing the diet and she said she has a strange taste in her mouth the same as me.
Last few days is the first time I HAVEN'T had a salty taste in my mouth/lips since starting 5:2 (5 fasts completed thus far). Usually I would associate it with dehydration but I have been drinking plenty albeit mainly tea/coffee/diluting drinks ie very litttle plain water.
Google suggests could be many things incl nutritional imbalance, but again I didn't relate to that as I have plenty veg and protein and carbs on feast days.
As I say, seems to have disappeared now, hopefully for good :)
I have been doing the Fast Diet since the start of the year and have been experiencing the same metallic/salty taste you all describe since the start of February. What I can't understand is that I fast on a Monday/Thursday, but the taste is still there on a Sunday, after I have been eating normally for three days. It is driving me to distraction. I love this diet in every other respect, but I don't know if I can put up with this for much longer. Any advice welcome.
Sorry Lema, can't help really. My problem disappeared when I moved from 36hour fast to 24hour. I can't think of anything else I changed.
