Ohhhh congrats on being aPower Seller! @nursebean!
I' m good at nabbing an ebay bargain at the last minute, but have had quite limited success when it comes to selling x
Off for an afternoon nap x x ( or maybe a meditation )
Sleep well :sleepy:
Ooh @nursebean - I didn't know you did the eBay thing...what do you sell? I love cruising through eBay for odd/interesting/quirky things.

So...update on the dress progress...
I've just pulled out my dressmakers dummy (a recent eBay find)...apparently this is me now?!

Dress 1...not going to be THE DRESS, but the practice run should become a nice dress anyway.

I'd started on a mock up of the first dress a little while back...I'm going to have to take it in a bit now, but since I used quite nice fabric I've managed to turn it into a nice summer dress. Bonus!

Dress 2 is now going to be THE DRESS, though, so time to get to cracking on the mock up of that one. I'm making the practice run out of curtain fabric (it was cheaper than calico), and I'm rather starting to like the look of it, so I might even end up with a nice cocktail dress as well by the end of all this!

First attempt at the bodice...a few fitting changes to make, but pretty happy with the start.
And one more pic...because they're fun...this is my helper today :)

I love number 2

I made my second wedding dress (onto number3 now  ) from a pattern. I made a few changes to it including adding a removable satin bow to the back of the waist which had the train attached. I made the train out of a voile type fabric which I embroidered around the edge (to match the veil) I embroidered our names to the bottom of the bow tails. All embroidery was in the same colour as the dress fabric but it was shimmery. This was my favourite bit, though it wasn't obvious to anyone else but me.
I have had a problem with dress form dummies. Even though I take my measurements, make all of the adjustments and re measure - what I make doesn't always fit. In the end I made a duct tape form to fit onto mine. I think I'm an odd shape and the dummies don't make allowances for small backs with big boobs
I am totally in awe of your drawings. I had very similar dreams, but couldn't really draw what was in my head and ended up in accountancy
I'm really looking forward to the ongoing pics xxx
Without a doubt dress No 2 is my favourite beautiful. Congratulations and I will follow your posts with intereast.
We've just had a family wedding in August one of the best days of my life, want to do it all over again. Good luck with the dress making and wedding plans :-)
This is looking good, I see you have a Bernina, I have one of their 4 thread overlockers and I would rather eat razor blades, without and anaesthetic, than be without it even though I no longer sew much. My cat used to lie at the back of my machine and then stick his paw through to get at the threads, grrrrr, but he did make me laugh and like yours he gravitated towards a bundle of fabric and tried to settle down on it, EVERY time! Your photograph made me all nostalgic but not sad, it made me smile

Ballerina x
I love your little helper @PeonyBlue...so cute! I just take my hat off to you and you fellow seamstresses (if that's the word). You really are talented. I wouldn't know where to start! Anyway, I really am looking forward to seeing how THE dress progresses...how exciting!

The year before we was getting married was spent with all sorts of "trying to be with child in any way", so I think my brain was pretty fried. Don't ask my why but since I was 38 I thought white wasn't for me, so I set my mind on apricot. So I found a Vouge pattern with a strapless short gown, gathered at the side with a long outer skirt buttoned on to the dress so that it was open at the front. And since it was a church wedding, I imagine a nice shawl but for some mysterious reason I decided on a short little bolero jacket. That way I could remove the long and she short a be able to party afterwards. So I went with silk, kind of shantung with the dress which worked very well, chiffon in the skirt which did not work - it stuck to my silk hosed legs like there was no tomorrow. No matter what I did....clung like cling film..
OK, I could live with that so on to the jacket and here I was running out of time. I am quite good with following patterns and sewing, but that bolero turned out to be the bane of me - I simply couldn't ge tit to work.

So on the eve of the wedding, I ran down to the DH who was putting up tables and such for the party
telling him "f-k this, I'm going to NK (then the poshest dept store in Sweden) - with an hour to spare before closing. So imagine this: me "I'm getting married and is looking for a jacket to go with this fabric" SA "OK, when is the wedding?" Me "tomorrow". And here I though she would faint and picked up a short fur like jacket. I said it wasn't me and she went all "well if you are getting married tomorrow, you can't be picky".
How true! But I found a flowery (I am NOT a floral girl in garments) jacket that went with the cress, but I was never comfortable with it....Plus my friends almost keeled over when we entered the church.

Sense moral? When you are getting married - go for it, whatever IT might be. I have played with the thought of divorcing The DH and do it allover again.....I will certainly not go for apricot but heavy cream with a lot of embellishments. Think I have watched to much of "Say yes to the dress"

PS I also have a dressmakers dummy with adjustable knobs. The problem is that the knobs is in the wrong place...or my measurements might be....
@Wolfie I really enjoyed your tale of pre wedding nonsense, made me chuckle, thanks

@PeonyBlue, all those dresses look so beautiful! I am in love with the blue one, such wonderful fabric.

It must be so nice to be able to make whatever kind of dress you want to wear and not be limited by the depressingly ugly selection found in shops.

I made clothes back in the 1970s. My most impressive achievement was a blue tailored wool suit I wore to a job interview with a huge corporation famed for its well dressed salesmen. I got the job, and I still have the jacket in my closet, though I would have to lose another 15 lbs to get into it, and even then it might be a tight squeeze. Two kids have changed my shape forever.

But I never could have designed patterns the way you do. Perhaps if I had had the beautiful figure you have I would have been more motivated to learn. Even at 110 lbs I had no waist. My38" wide rib cage comes right down to my hips. So dresses never ended up looking right on my squatty, short, fireplug body. Eventually it got to where it was cheaper to buy off the rack than buy fabric, and with kids, who had time to sew? Its a shame as I loved sewing.

But enough about me. You are going to be such a beautiful bride! I can't wait to see photos of you in your regalia.
