Peony Blue, I forgot to say how much I am in awe of your talent. You are going to have the most beautiful, unique dress in the world. And you will be such an amazing bride
There is a part of me regretting to never got my butt of to a cutting/pattern making class, but regrets are just a waste of time
Loving all the stories about dresses and weddings coming out! @Wolfie, I think for one of your anniversaries you should go with a renewal of vows ceremony...and then you get to have the dress of your dreams! I hear you with getting creative with fabric choices and the problems with bolero jackets...I made a taffeta bolero for my year 12 formal dance...worse choice ever! Never sat right if I moved my arms in the slightest!

Adjustable dress forms are never ideal, but I get by using the corset you see on there - I'm a DD, so liberal stuffing is needed to get the bust measurement right without increasing the rib cage measure! I once read instructions for sewing a customised toile to then put over a commercial form, but I'm too lazy for that. I am intrigued by the duct tape form @Karenm...I can only imagine the hilarity that would have ensued trying to make it!

Well, I'm off to check out Beanie's shop...sounds like fun!
Glad to see the progress @Peonyblue and love your cat!
How wonderful! You are very talented Peonyblue. It's going to be stunning :star:

When I got married I made my dress but we were only getting married in a registry office so I made a floor length chinese style dress in a sort of wine coloured silk and it had a mandarin collar and frogging fastenings. I used to do loads of sewing donkeys years ago but got out of the habit. I'm wanting to start doing it again as I still have my sewing machine and boxes full of fabric but I want to get down a few dress sizes before I do so.
:chicken2:
That dress sounds lovely @cheekychicken. I must say I'm one of those too for whom sewing got forgotten for a while...really, since I started full time work, so nearly 10 years since I've done anything. But I'm loving it! I'd forgotten how much I enjoy it. It's one of those engrossing activities - you just don't notice the time passing...just so in the moment you could keep going forever  So I'd say, just start sewing, even if you don't want to do something for yourself yet, or start something like a patchwork quilt to get back into it. You too could be a born again sewer!

Anyway, hopefully more pics tomorrow...I'm pretty excited with how this is coming together!
Oooh chicken @Cheekychicken your dress sounds just beauuutiful! I love chinese style clothes. I bet you looked gorgeous!

You certainly are talented in this tent. Think I better make my exit...and fast!
I need to scarper too@nursebean..i' m so outa place with these talented folk who i so admire
Yr dress sounds amazing @cheekychicken..i used to work with a girl who made herself a coat with frogging...ive never forgotten it,it was so different, she made loads of clothes
She made me a maxi dress too! She also made - a set of steps to lead up to her loft - My brain hurts just thinking about that  i wdnt know where to start but she said it was no different than making something with a dress pattern :?:
Dress update!

Mock-up is at fitting stage...on the dummy it's a little loose around the tummy (dress dummy has no tum...obviously never eats!)

I just tried it on...and I've lost a few more cm! Going to have to take it a bit...don't know whether to be annoyed or pleased! (Am pleased obviously, but after all my careful measuring I was hoping it would fit better first off...I'm a perfectionist, can you tell?) :geek:

Anyway...here's how it's going...I made it out of curtain fabric because that was the cheapest fabric I could buy. I'm liking it so much, I'm contemplating wearing curtains for my wedding! Very "Sound of Music"!

Mock-up attempt 1
Wow!!! Just beautiful!! Well done and thanks for the piccy.
Xxx
Looks beautiful! And, as you say, looks fine as is even if a bit reminiscent of Sound of Music play clothes!!!!!

I am very envious of you and all the other sewers, so am glad to have some company with Nursebean and Candice Marie for those of us for whom sewing on buttons is about the limit. I have tried to sew, have had lessons, inherited a very good machine, but even following a pattern exactly, still the result is very disappointing. So I give up. Much the same with cooking, I am ashamed to say. :(

Anyhow, am looking forward to seeing the progression of the dress and the final result. :)

And have said "hello" to Adelaide from you; back to Melbourne tomorrow.
@PeonyBlue, if the dress looks so gorgeous in curtain material, how amazing is the finished dress going to be! Super WOW! :)
Well I don't hear Sound of Music ant all when looking at that amazing dress, but imagine it would fit 100% into Downtow Abbey (sp?) . I am soooooo impressed - again ;)
Absolutely gorgeous AND such a tiny waist.....sigh!

Ballerina x
It's going to look fabulous, especially with your tiny waist, and don't complain about losing cms - most people would kill for that problem!
WOW that dress is utterly stunning, I love it!! You're very talented!!
I got a sewing machine last year but all I've managed to do is hem some trousers and repair a seam. I'd love to learn dressmaking.
