Dr M emailed me...
29 Apr 2013, 05:50
Remember my yesterday's comments on their website?

The first one was about the existence of this forum and their probably selfish reasons for creating a new one and when they deleted it I posted a second one saying "thanks for deleting my comment, it proves that it was 100% correct".

A few hours ago, I got an email with a reply saying <<Actually it's more that I'm not keen about being linked to an advertised sponsored site. I understand the need, just don't like the ads>>.

Seriously, does he think I'm stupid???

Ads ?

I've just had to search to find an ad (a small one at the bottom of the home page!)

I wonder how he thinks Moogie could afford to run such a site without some kind of income! If he were offering funding I'm sure we would have considered an alliance!

He did say "I understand the need, just don't like the ads"

Yes, so he could have offered us an alternative. He will have to fund his forum anyway so he could join us and pay the hosting fees and the ads could go. Well that's the offer I would have considered making if I were in his shoes.

More ads are displayed to guest users than registered users, so most of you won't see many of them. I wish I was in a position to say I'll remove them, I don't like ads on sites either, however with the need for a new server its a necessary evil as Dr M clearly knows. If I was doing TV spots and had best selling books I'm sure ads wouldn't be needed. A lot of sites have ads and I think most people don't find it unusual. It's a shame he's sort of written this site off just because I don't have deep pockets!

Well, in a way its better not being officially linked to them, it means we keep control of this site and are free to discuss other books, link to the documentary and make or own rules. We belong to no one and I like it that way. An independent forum :) best way to be!

He emailed me too, but not about the site as such, just wanting to pick my brain.

"We belong to no one and I like it that way." I like that too. It means we are not edited to keep us "on message" and keeps the debate healthy.

Moogie, you are just too nice for your own good, but we like you that way so don't change. You are quite right about maintaining your independence, that way you, and us, are free, yippee.

The link to Amazon is great and I use it all the time, I don't know (or want to know, none of my business) how much it helps but I shall continue to use it.

It would be good though if we could join forces on the research side though! More data means more reliable results. Could we offer some kind of collaboration?

More words of wisdom from our wonderful M & C. Can't admit to being a tad disappointed in Dr M's attitude though. Don't give too much away Moogie - let them go figure

It was my worry too that if you joined up with them you would have to toe their line. The ads aren't obtrusive and you have freedom to run things your way which is what keeps us all here.

Don't be too nice to him though. You had to learn so let him find his own way.

I think we should value the independence of this site too. We do the same for our business too (www.westgatelabs.co.uk) and find our customers like us to be independent and they have more faith in us for it.
