Hi Silverdarling,
Glad you're enjoying your jollies in Aberfeldy, spent many a happy holiday at Moness, just across the road from the Birks, have you been up them yet?
See you found the Mill coffee shop, good isn't it, but if you are feeling a wee bit naughty the tearoom on the main street has really good cream cakes esp meringues!

Hi all - now settled in wonderful place in Portnalong, western Skye ...
Ginty - I wish I'd got the chance to do the Birks walk - but the weather was just too rainy yesterday! But it is definitely on my list! Had to make do with that piece of coffee and walnut cake in the Watermill
Ballerina, would love to do Loch Ness, the Black Isle, and the Cairngorms ...
The journey up to Skye took most of the day - went across Rannoch and down Glencoe, but there was too much mist to see the fantastic 'Skyfall' view .... Mist cleared around Fort William, and by the time I got to Loch Duich and Eilean Donan ... Well have a look at the photo
Hope this weather keeps up ...

Just seen your photo - what a beautiful place it is (and no rain, that's a bonus!)

Love the photo...blue sky on the west coast!
I love going over to the Black Isle. When the girls were younger I would take them to Fortrose, drive through the middle of the golf course (there is a road there), to the end to Chanonry Point which is a peninsular on the Moray Firth. If you time it right (when the tide is coming in) you just need to have a bit of patience and then you will be in for the best show of your life - dolphins playing and feeding in the water and so close to the shore. It really is the epitome of freedom.
Do you get dolphin around Skye or what about sea otters?

I listened to Moray Firth Radio when I was in Shetland! I saw porpoises off Skye in the Jura sound - a long time ago. We had dratsies (see otters in SHetland ) and I was lucky enough to spend a wee while watching them. I thought they were selkies at first then is dawned on me. And one ran across the road in front of the car more than once at night. It's probably road kill now
Wildmissus amd Janeg - funny that re Chanonry Point, it's in the latest Ian Rankin Rebus novel that I was reading, and the dolphins are mentioned. Apparently there have been dolphins sighted in the south of Skye around Armadale, and also near Elgol, in the last week or so. And puffins have been seen the last week or so, especially round Plockton. So I might take a wee boat trip ...
Suchard - weather returned to 'normal' today .. I lurked around Portree with all the other tourists trying to keep out of the fine spray that passes for rain in these parts... No mountains could be seen, a line of mist and cloud in the way. Forecast much better for tomorrow though.
And only had one piece of cake today - a very nice mouthwatering carrot cake from Eilishadder Art Cafe on the Trotternish peninsula - it was worth the 10 mile trip alone to have this wonderful slice of cake. Pity I did not take a photo of it (may have to go back ...)

Silverdarling, I am feeling inspired to explore my own country by your posts and the replies. I have lived in various countries at different stages in my life and visited countless, but the most I ever saw of Scotland was as a child and teenager when I was a keen youth hosteller. But there are lots of places I've never visited, simply because they're on the doorstep maybe, and I've developed "I'll do it one day" mentality. I would love to visit the Orkneys and I'm going to put that thought into action and go there next year - that's a promise! Another part of Scotland that I don't know very well is the borders area and it's not far away at all. Hope you get some good weather tomorrow and enjoy the rest of your hols!
Didn't know that about Ian Rankin. Dhana has beaten me to what I was going to say. You live in the place but you don't go exploring. I've never seen a puffin in the wild, that's on my bucket list as is Mull as they have sea eagles (and the kids used to watch Balamory when they were wee and that is Tobermory). I've gone as far as Oban a few times but that's it. Really fancy a visit to Iona. Orkney is definitely on the list - I love Ola Gorie jewellery, she is from Orkney. What's your plans for tomorrow? Are you doing a lot of walking on Skye?
If it's nice weatherwise, might try and go on one of the boat trips, either Elgol or Plockton, and haven't really been down the south of the island ... Also haven't had any seafood yet !
Did anyone see the TV programme, 'Town' last night? It was about Oban! They talked about the herring industry and referred to 'silverdarlings' so I thought of you, silverdarling!
Caroline, you get younger looking every time I see you

Heading up to the Cairngorms for a bit of plundering and pillage on Saturday for a few days, might try and be good a couple of days ... but it's a holiday so might just not
Never been tempted by a deep fried mars bar but haggis and chips is a different matter altogether
