I shouldn't be reading this on a 'fast day'
Peanut butter with bread & butter pickles sandwich... mmmm butter on one slice, peanut putter on the other and pickles in the middle and if no pickles available sweet relish does the trick as well.
Plain (Walkers) crisps and a Mars Bar...Yum!
Oh and chocolate Philly with those little savoury cheesy biscuits...Yum, Yum!!

this post is such a tease on a fasting day!!...(but wait until tomorrow..)
Ooh I do like a random nibble from time to time - one of my favourite snacks when I'm trying to recreate the yummy savoury saltiness of crisps but I've been extra good and haven't got any in the house, is a couple of crackers or oatcakes spread with butter and topped with a spoonful of nutritional yeast with a sprinkle of maldon sea salt. Nutritional yeast (or 'nooch' as those trendy americans call it) is weird yellowy flakes that look like dandruff, smell like cheesy chicken stock and seem like they must be foul beyond description. It's found lurking on the shelves at a health food shop and vegans often use it as a source of vitamin B12 and to make something approaching a cheesy flabour. I'm not a vegan (hence the butter) but discovered it whilst exploring different foodstuffs - and I have to say I love it. It's pretty low calorie (something like 17 for a tablespoon) and can give you that savoury satisfaction (even better when salt is added) without scoffing loads of crisps. The crackers & butter, however, are not low calorie! Messy though - it all falls off the crackers and you then end up licking the plate! But then all the best foods are a bit messy.
Great topic! Mine is lime pickle straight from the jar. Only if it's really solid chunks of lime, though!
Um, fasting today... But here goes..
Texas style roast beef sarnie, rye bread, thin sliced roast, vidalia onion, ketchup on one side, bbq sauce on the other.

Mine is chilli coated peanuts mixed with dried currents. Sweet and spicy all in one. Delicious!
Can't handle lime pickle - it's too hardcore for me!
I'm also partial to green smoothies (hence my name) - on monday's fast I was really craving a smoothie containing spinach, tofu, almond milk, frozen banana (try a frozen banana whizzed in a food processor for something very much like ice cream), peanut butter, maply syrup and cocoa. Tuesday morning I practically leapt out of bed and I made the exact smoothie - it tasted incredible.... the tofu didn't do much though, just added a bit of protein I suppose.
Awesome topic, I'm sure I have more strange combos that everyone else thinks are foul.

Glad I fasted yesterday! I used to love cheese and jam sandwiches. Had to be Cheshire cheese and strawberry jam. Not so yummy now that it has to be gluten free bread though so my replacement is gluten free crispbread with chocolate spread and peanut butter.
The mention of blackcurrant jam reminded me of a dessert my mother invented when we had unexpected visitors and she needed something fast. She only had the pantry to raid as we lived miles from any shops. It was just a pastry case slathered with her home made blackcurrant jam and topped off with whipped cream. It remained a family favourite.

Our daughter ever since she was little, every Christmas on Boxing Day has .......
a Christmas dinner butty, yes, everything you would have on your Christmas dinner plate she sticks in a butty, including gravy, it's become a tradition in its own right
and I caught her and her mum one Boxing day morning at the fridge door with the trifle bowl and 2 spoons

Oh I adore trifle! I soooo miss proper trifle! I had a go at making one with gluten free sponge and the damned stuff drank all the sherry!!!! For those who don't know, gluten free grains soak up all moisture endlessly. It doesn't seem to matter how much you wet them they just get bigger but never seem any wetter.I ended up with a horrid, stodgey mess topped with cream and custard.
Weetabix spread all over with jam, then add milk. Yum yum.
Not had this for breakfast for a long time!! Reminds me of my childhood.
I'm fasting today too but really enjoying all these posts and might have to try some of them on a feed day soon.

Hi Izzy
I make yummy brownies with ground almonds. Its nicer than the gluten free flour blends which tend to have a lot of rice flour in them. Rice flour is gritty. Of course the calorie count of ground almonds is fearsome (as is the cost!). I've pretty much resigned myself to not having trifle and have to suffer with a pavlova instead!
