Hi everyone, @Wildmissus I think for you its chocolates and for me its chips/ crisps. I don't want to give them up till Christmas like some of our clever/ strong friends are doing. I buys little packs in multipacks so they're only 20 grams/ under 100 cals but if you eat 5 or more a week then it obviously adds up. Hubs said not to buy them because he can't help himself and would be just as happy with vegetable crudités and salsa dip! I listened to a TED talk about a uni student who had an overweight 11 year old brother. The older brother broke his leg on ice and had to postpone uni for 2 months. He was worried about the life his little brother would havr if he kept eating too much of the wrong things- bullying,low self esteem etc.He went home, cleared out the kitchen and in a fun way cooked every meal for his brother and got him to help. By the end of the time his brother was a healthy weight. We all know that if the trigger foods are in the house we can't help ourselves but we still buy them but one thing he said resonated with me. He said " it doesn't mean you can't have that item ever. Any time you want it you can go to the shop , buy it and bring it home and enjoy it. Just don't have it in the house all the time. Brilliant! So that's what I'm going to to do.

Hi @julianna - I don't recall which writer it is but someone like Spinardi or Riley argues that if you're never exposed to your trigger foods then you don't acquire experience in controlling your response to them. However, altho' some readers have interpreted that to mean that you should keep your trigger foods in your home and readily accessible, the author explains that the strategy is up to the individual and, for some, 'Store it at the store' is the best method (or, as per the TED talk, if you want it, go to the store/shop and buy a portion and enjoy it - just don't keep a supply in the house) :)

ETA: it's Gillian Riley (e.g., Ditching Diets) - this is probably more relevant to people who are in the early stages of learning a different response to foods that are associated with binges or over-eating episodes.
@CandiceMarie, I wonder who stole our mojo? We can't blame Sue as she's not around at the moment. You make a good point that many of us including myself forget that 5:2ing isn't just about losing weight, there are the other health benefits too.

@julianna, I've been thinking about what you say. I can't get rid of everything as OH and daughters also live in 'my' house but I could just buy them the stuff I don't like. I have done this before but it makes me feel miserable watching them eat ginger nuts (which I don't like) when I could be eating chocolate digestives! However, with a little bit of a change in attitude I could get to grips with buying an individual bar of chocolate when I feel like it or at least thinking that way as I think when it comes down to it I probably couldn't be bothered going out in the cold and dark just to get one wee bar of chocolate. On the other hand I have also tried having copious amounts of naughty stuff in the house and that really didn't work for me as I just ate it anyway.
I'm guilty of eating too much chocolate lately as well. My weight hasn't budged, because my thryoid is a mess and despite being constantly ravenous and eating the wrong things, I haven't gained an ounce.

@Wildmissus - I bet your daughter's hair is gorgeous. I love plum/purple hair :-)
Its tricky isn't it? My 20 year old daughter died her hair purple too!
So I go away for a month and when I come back, there is a new chatterbox ? :grin:

It will take some time to catch up, I just began to read all I missed (I didn't even lurked when I was away) ....

Happy to read you all... Well, except Sue as it seems that she went away while I was away :cry:
@manderley. Welcome back. It's been quiet on the forums so nice to read your postings again. I read your update and how honest you were about body issues and weight loss not solving all problems. Sounds like things have been tough for you recently.
:oops: sorry to be AWOL so long and many thanks to CandiceMarie for mentioning me. I've been so busy going for long walks with my brother who's been visiting from W.A. since mid August, but this morning took him to Manchester airport at 6 am as he's off travelling in Central America for 3 months, returning here end of Jan for 9 days before finally flying home early Feb. Hopefully I'll be back in the swing of things now I've got some free time and am looking forward to catching up with everyone's news. I've really missed the forum and all the support and fun. Great to see so many newbies too!
Lovely to have you back @callyanna and @Manderley.

Great news @Silverdarling, White Stuff are opening a shop in Inverness tomorrow and what a shame, it's my day off tomorrow so I'll be there in the morning. I saw this on the internet and I want it! -

I intend to carry on walking with a friend Carie but probably not doing such long ones now the days are getting shorter! Have really got the fitbit bug now, aiming for at least 12K steps a day and can really feel the benefit as I don't seem to get out of puff in the gym as quickly as I used to either. I'm sure with all your classes though you'll soon be on my tail again! :razz:
