I can see I'm going to have to do job descriptions / person specs / and even, God forbid, APPRAISALS *sigh* :frown:  :curse:

Not to mention manual handling course for lifting all those bottles, cakes and biscuits (not to mention the books, lol!)
Oh yeah! Toodle pip  ... off to bed now
Great thread topic, will have to read it with my "to read" list close by so I can add books to it.
I've just finished Terry Prachett's The Wee Free Men, and it was great. Parts of the imaginary world reminded me of some of Jasper Fforde's world. Wee Free Men is a quick, fun read, highly recommend it to any fantasy fans. And any book that has a character called "Not-as-big-as-Medium-Sized-Jock-but-bigger-than-Wee-Jock-Jock" can only be good.
Hi, can I be a late-comer to the book club??

I'm quite an avid reader - have read a few chapters of the new J.K. Rowling and can't say I'm too enthralled just yet - but its already a lot better than the last book (that one had a good title and a great-looking cover photo) . . don't ask . .!!!!!!
Am happy to be an assistants assistant !?! But can I apply for tea lady. I'm very good at baking, none of these all icing cup cakes, I do real cakes :) and I have a large selection of teas, coffees and fruit juices.
Phew! What a relief - just got to pass it by the boss, but she's a darling so don't see any probs. there. So. you were saying, lemon drizzle cake, cupcakes, mmmm, you do know how to make shortbread don't you? It's a prerequisite for the job.
I can make shortbread, chocolate cake, coffee cake, carrot cake, ginger cake, fruit cake, choc chip cookies, oat & pecan cookies, peanut butter cookies, and I have done a patisserie course so if you are feeling posh you can have tarte au citron, chocolate tarted with real chocolate ganache, raspberry frangipans ...the list is endless. My speciality ( several requests made by friends) is a chocolate cake covered in choc fudge icing with choc fingers around the outside and a selection of Belgian chocs on top.

Do I get the job???

I can put the books on audio on my kindle whilst baking :)
Got the job? are you kidding - let's open a bakery in a little corner of the library. The bosslady need never know, it will be our little secret! oh, and now that you've asked, I'll have the tarte au citron if you please!
I can open red wine, white wine, rose wine, sparkling wine or any combination so I could run the little bar in the corner and we could demolish all of Minsmum's fabulous treats and then wash them down with my expertly uncorked wines. How good is that? :victory:

Ballerina x
Yay a bakery and a wine stop may as well just have a deli on the go with savoury pastries and pies, I can make them too :)

Err what about the books?.....
Well, I'm not currently reading this, but I've determined it is one of my goals in life to get everyone I possibly can to read this book. It is Blood Song by Anthony Ryan. It is fantastic! A paradigm shifter! It will ruin you for many other authors.
Great day to all of you!
Cakes, wine, deli...mm, what's that? books? what books? Oh yes, those...well if you must.
Almost finished a book called The Sentimentalists, by a very gifted young Canadian writer called Johanna Skibsrud. Briefly it's about the complicated and complex relationship she has with her father, A Vietnam veteran, and really it's about all of us. beautifully written and sad and funny. I love when I find a new writer I really enjoy, it doesn't happen so often now.
Minsmum, I was nearly jumping for joy when I saw that list of cakes you bake as I misread your home county as Herefordshire where I live not Hartfordshire where you are. Boo Hoo!

A thought provoking one I read was 'Gate to Women's Country' by Sherri S.Tepper. and by the same author 'Gibbons Rise and Fall'.

Most of what I read is Science Fiction, but there is no reason for it not to be thought provoking.

Edited as I have fat finger syndrome at the moment and can't seem to hit the keys properly.
