Sights while on the go
20 Mar 2014, 21:11
I posted his on a running group on MFP, and loved he responses, so thought I'd try it here. I thought it was just so cool to get a glimpse into other people's perspectives from around the world!
What awesome/crazy/crazyawesome sights have you seeing while running/cycling/walking/etc?
My route takes me past a little farm with a goat and two horses. As I passed today, I saw the goat pawing at one of the horses tails, then he proceeded to toss his head through it! On the way back, he had moved on to the other horse and turned to look at me, wearing the horses tail on his head. So funny, had me laughing out loud! Must have looked frightening to the passing cars, what with me being sweaty tomato-faced and grinning with all my teeth! I think I've fallen in love with a goat!
Just a couple days ago, I thought I saw a crow carry off a kitten! I was trying to figure out if it was a kitten, anyways, when a big bird came and snatched it! Might've been a squirrel, but still... I didn't think crows were like that!
Something breath-takingly beautiful I get to see on a regular basis is the Puget Sound. One of my routes takes me around a corner that then opens up to a wide view of it. I love clear mornings when the sky is all pink and orange, it's glorious! Makes my heart sing :)

Nice idea for a thread.
Last summer whilst out doing our 5k river walk there was a young man. He was on the other side of the river with a massive back pack. Looked like a soldier training. Anyway he stopped when he got close to a small herd of cows grazing beside the river. My daughter started laughing, he's afraid of the cows, she said. He went down the river bank towards the water, away from them. He managed to get away from the cows (they're young and can get a bit flighty). He then started running again and when at a safe distance he stopped to get a packet of food out and started eating.

All of a sudden the cows started running towards him, he didn't actually realise they were gaining on him.......
he looked back and screamed......
yes he screamed....
dropped his food
they stopped.........and he ran like his life depended on it until he reached the next stile

Bless him.
We didn't laugh......not much.

Was walking this morning..found an odd glove and stuck it on some railings!
Sorry but its best i can do for today..! Literally didn't see anything else of note except some lovely doggies ..ncluding a welsh terrier ..so cute...called Freda!
Hate it when you spot a lost teddy..so poignant! ..so puzzled when occasionally spot a discarded shoe..whatever happened there?! Have seen it happen more than once!
One thing so often spotted in Liverpool..guys with guitars! Think every young guy in this city must play! X

Was jogging this morning and I saw a squirrel. It was lovely as the sun came out and I was running on through a wooded area.

That sounds like a nice run! I love squirrels@Brand- ie
I always take nuts to the park for them..they're so tame they come up and take them from yr hand
Lived in an attic flat once and squirrels moved into the roof space!
Despite being so small and light, they made an incredible racket!
I liked them being there but the landlord didnt and he got some sort of sonic device that moved them on
Literally saw them vacate the premises and run along the roof.
They jumped onto next doors roof and last i saw of them they were disappearing under my neighbours eaves! X

LOL I bet your landlord was popular with the neighbours. They can cause damage to electrical wires I think.
It's a park that takes part of a disused railway as part of it and it's lovely, there's a small river that runs through it and plenty of dog walkers. There is a nice play area to take the kids too.

I lived in the Puget Sound area for 10 years, and I have to say I honestly think the crows are more vicious there. I think they're larger too. Where in Puget Sound are you? I lived all over, from Olympia to Bremerton to Redmond :-) I used to love to watch the Orca whales when they would occasionally swim into the Silverdale harbor, chasing salmon. I worked in Silverdale, so I would go have my lunch where I could watch the whales :-)

I don't usually see much on my walks. Lately, with the extreme cold, they're usually on my treadmill or in a shopping mall. When it's milder, I do take my dog to "read the twitter feed" (i.e. smell the messages the other dogs have left). But it's a rural/suburban development, so houses are spread out and there's plenty of trees, but no interesting animals other than the occasional rabbit.

It's the underwear that baffles me!

You just baffled me o.O lol
Loooove the cow story @carieoates! That would totally be me, though, if I turned to see a herd of cows running towards me!
@Tracieknits - I live in suquamish and am soooo jealous of your orca sightings! I diligently search for sea mammals, but have only seen seals (they like bainbridge!). And I don't think you have to see something out of the ordinary to have a story here. If the dew drops on a spider web or a couple bird chasing each other around inspire you, I'll hear it! It's neat to hear what speaks to others :)
@candicemarie - It can be fun seeing dogs, but I hate it when they're unaccompanied and follow me. I wouldn't want to pied piper them to their death :(
Ha, yesterday I was afraid I was gonna be killed! I ran across a fellow with his scythe-like tree limber, and he was quite chatty and I'd step away and he'd come closer. I was thinking, "please don't let it end like this, not with THAT". Needless to say, he was a nice gentleman and I'm a paranoid baboon!

Out walking yesterday in the Kent countryside we were halfway across a field, when we saw it was occupied by a herd (flock?) of Alpacas. They obviously associate humans with food and immediately started walking, some quite fast, towards us, apart from one which clearly couldn't be bothered. We got to the stile before they quite reached us (and no we weren't running)and they stood watched us under from under huge eyebrows, as we headed off through the next wood.

I live in the country in Brittany and usually see a few roe deer, red squirrels, buzzards, lots of cows and once a wild boar (fortunately he was going in a different direction to me). My fellow female runners in the club will never run on their own in the countryside as they are too scared of being attacked (by men, not animals), it has never bothered me!
