Getting Sweaty! Exercise & Fitness

It looks like Michael Mosley's programme about exercise is being shown on BBC2 tonight 9pm.

He really is becoming ubiquitous (him and Brian Cox) !
My Radio Times says it is Funny Business at 9pm tonight?????
BBC website says Dr M is on link
Many thanks. Goody, goody, for Dr M. I am on my 2nd fast day, and done pilates and aquafit without any problems, 5:2 is going so well! I am waiting for progress tracker to re-start, and will put my info on it.
Thanks Caroline, I've Sky+d it. :)
Thanks for that, I missed it first time round
It was good to see it again. I will keep on with my 30 secs x 3 flat out biking but try to walk more too. I feel I must be a non-responder like him cos it's not getting any easier!

I was struck though by how much he had changed since that programme! He really looks a lot healthier in his new programme. Shows how effective fasting has been for him!
I tried to record this but it onlypicked upthe first 10 minutes and the last 2 for some reason :(

The only message I picked up was that chairs are killers
Tis on iplayer already!

Keep away from those chairs...hide behind the sofa...you know it's on your side!
Thanks Caroline, 1st time I have seen this programme.Even more reason to keep at diet, along with the exercising that I started last September. I have not lost weight by exercising, but seen great improvement in flexibility. The 5:2 fast will be the answer for the required weight loss I need(10Kg ),and I am absolutely sure of that now.
I've been meaning to look this one up online and hadn't had the chance yet, really enjoyed watching it - and as you say, it was a real contrast seeing him on the Genius of Invention later last night, he does look so much healthier!

Wish I hadn't got rid of the exercise bike now, but I guess I could do 20 seconds of intensive stepping three times a day (for 3 days a week, right?). That'll be Tues, Wed & Fri then, and normal stepping on my fast days! Speaking of which, time to cue up an episode of How I Met Your Mother and get the stepper out ;) Ah, multi-tasking!
I'm out tonight (at a cupcake decorating class of all things lol) but will catch it on the catch up thing on Virgin. Will be interesting to see.

I've been quite ill with a chest infection so my usual exercise has fallen to the wayside at the moment. Might start up a new routine based on the program and see how it goes.

Thanks for the heads up!
I enjoyed the programme too, thanks for the tip off. There is a (warning: slightly sceptical) appraisal here: http://www.sciencebase.com/science-blog/three-minutes-of-exercise-really-isnt-enough.html.
I don't really understand what the critique is trying to say! It talks about the fact that Dr M didn't lose weight, but that was not the point of the 'experiment' and it also talks about whether or not he was truly a non-responder. That was also not the point. The point of the programme as I understood it was to say, for people who don't enjoy going down the gym, 3 x 20 secs HIT PLUS getting up out of the chair and walking around at least once an hour will improve their glucose metabolism and lower their risk of cardiovascular disease. Since the alternative protocol is to do nothing, then surely his intervention will do good?

I think the people who criticize this and also our 5:2 fasting way of life are generally people who are blessed with being naturally thin and who enjoy exercise. Rather than find an alternative more palatable approach to weight control and fitness for the masses who are not like them, they just keep banging on about how their own approach is best. Well, yes, it might be, but for it to be the best people actually have to DO it, if people don't then however wonderful their approach is, it is basically useless for the majority of the population!

Rant over...
See this review of studies on HIIT and its potential to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
