Getting Sweaty! Exercise & Fitness

You're asking ME about exercise??! I have next to no knowledge compared with Pete! All I know about HIIT is that it is supposed to increase VO2max if you're a responder (not everyone is). I presume increased VO2max would improve endurance?

I found these papers which may be useful:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23899754
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16825308
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12076176

Good luck with it!
I think Pete is trying to find a nice way to tell me to carry on with my crazy hill run. Maybe I'll do that once a week and cycling HIIT once a week, and my long run on the weekend. And a bit of weight training on the off days. I've got to stop signing up for these. They'll be the end of me!
surfing around a bit in Runners' World and such places gives me the impression that runners stick to a fairly classical mix of long runs, shorter runs (sometimes faster than race pace, sometimes at race pace for an easy day), and intervals (not high intensity necessarily). But I did find this: http://www.runnersworld.com/workouts/totally-fit

As usual, I'll just make up something on my own given the amount of time I have to train, but I like the idea that some shorter intense training sessions can replace some of the running, both because of time and knee trouble. I'll do HIIT on a stationary bike for that reason. Some people suggest elliptical, but I don't feel comfortable going all out on an elliptical. I'm probably doing something wrong, which is a good reason to avoid it.
