Happy Australia Day @Sallyo
Congrats on the first fast day @lazyfatboy
@Curlycurvy best of luck!
@Loversghost Congratulations on the new job!

Well I'm in for a fast day today, although due to poor planning on my part, I'll have to cook dinner on a fast day. We're having a green chili with chicken and white beans tonight for dinner.

I'm hoping to keep my hands and mind occupied with knitting today, I have a new sweater halfway completed. It's been ages since I shelled out the $$$ on yarn for a big project, because it can be so expensive and I don't want to stay at this size. But I went to a knitting convention last week with a friend and found a sweater's worth of real wool yarn for only $35, so I decided to get some. It's a lovely purple heather.
I'm in for my usual Monday fast. Made some marmalade this afternoon without licking my fingers or the spoon once
Wow, @Lil! How did you do that! Well done!
I kept going to do it especially when I testing for the setting point but stopped myself and washed my hands just in time. Could have added up to quite a few cals. I had cooked the oranges up yesterday and will be at work tomorrow so needs must!
Yesterday I had toast at supper time and on it I had the three-fruit marmalade that I made last week. Luckily, when I made it , it was not a fast day, so lots of tasting happened! I am a little disappointed with the set on mine. Less water next time, I think!
Why am I now thinking of toast when I should be thinking 'fasting thoughts' to see me through until dinner! :frown:
I'm very late checking in with you all, it's 5pm and all is going well. Happy Australia day to all.
@LadanTrying sending you and your Mum positive vibes and best wishes, my thoughts are with you and your family  It's SO good to talk, there is a carers thread, I'll find it so we can all keep in touch.
@Loversghost is 6 weeks notice in your contract? If your contract says 4 weeks, stand your ground and suggest they recruit an experienced temp (they are out there) to whom you can hand over then they can take as long as they like in their recruitment process and not at your expense :victory:
I have a visitor staying this evening arriving at 8pm. About to ring someone about a complaint, then prep dinner of cod and loads of greens and expecting a call from my friend who has just landed at Heathrow from Qatar. Too busy to think about food today
And for those of you knee deep in snow and cold - here is a big hug to help keep you warm!
LadanTrying wrote: I'm in again today after an erratic week last week... my Mum's in the hospital awaiting a bypass surgery which they're planning to do tomorrow. While I don't think I overdid things last week, I definitely didn't follow the normal fast day approach. :( I realised that for me, a big part of the process being a success is being able to cook my own fasting meals... trying to eat out/convenience food shop on a fast day doesn't seem to work for me. And I guess, when all's said and done, being worried about my mum just took precedence over worrying about my own diet concerns. And that's life, isn't it... fasting today just seems to be giving me a sense of trying to keep things normal to some extent, if that makes sense.

I know you all don't know me very well, but you're all such a positive group.. if I could just ask for some good thoughts to be sent tomorrow to my mum for a successful surgery tomorrow, I'd be ever so grateful.

Thanks.

Sorry I missed this @ladantrying -- of course I'll send positive thoughts!
@Ladantrying
I will light a candle for your Mom and you here (maybe you like to do the same, it is very comforting place in the internet

Best wishes
from heart to hearts literally

Thank you, everyone! As I suspected with such a positive group of people... the nice little words are really appreciated. And thanks for passing me to the carer tent. Will check it out!

I made an extremely comforting and low cal (about 375 cal per portion) haddock and prawn pie tonight... just felt nice to not have the wonky hospital food for a day or two! (James Martin hasn't made it to every hospital in the UK, let me just put it that way...)

Havent caught up with anyone here today so hope all is well in fasting world x
I have picked up on @LadanTrying tho..thinking of you & mum, will light a candle in the morning as i' ll be home xx
@mahalo thank you! I always used to leave messages and candles when needed on that site but i lost it - now i have it back again!
Well my lunch experiment went well..530 cal lunch and been ok since..not hungry at all but just had a comforting 40 cal drink..not worried about going over 500 cals slightly...life's too short
Next time, back to dindins tho...too much of a gamble blowing all the cals midday! X

Having soup for lunch and a cup of cocoa (with artificial sweetener) at 2:30 has definitely helped with the hunger. So that's a relief. Now to see how little I can get away with for dinner.
Hi all

I'm a former faster who got pregnant.i used to be on this forum under the name jmousey but I'm a new person now and a newmum. gave birth 6 weeks ago and now getting back to my old self. Did my first fast today and to be honest the fact that I have nap so much made it ok . Had dreaded it.ill put up a proper introduced post tomoro and familiarise myself with the new layout-very different to what I remember 9months ago
Many congratulations @teddybear and welcome back
I remember yr jmousey name
Well done on your first new fast! X
Coming to the end of a good Monday fast day worldwide. I had lasagna and salad for dinner. I put a lot of vegetables in my lasagna so it isn't as carb-y as some. Still a very filling fast day meal. I ate nothing else all day, though. Hope the Aussies had a good celebration. Hope the east coast Americans are surviving. See you next time around.
@LadanTrying, sending healing thoughts to your mom.

@lazyfatboy, good for you, and welcome...but you don't sound lazy to me!

@Mary C, it's not always easy for everyone. I have posted a lot about how I try to manage hunger on light days; food choices can make a big difference. Normally, I eat bread and other carbs as I please, but I don't on light days. Not only are they too caloric, but seem to trigger hunger rather than satiation. And it really depends on what one means by "easy"; some of us who've been on lots of diets might experience this WOL as easier than constant restriction.

Have been "in" today, pretty typical light day; had broth at 7pm (out running around)--we had a BEAUTIFUL day today, over 60F and sunny, more like spring than winter! (though spring can be really wet here in Seahawks land) Hah, someone talking about making marmalade on a fast day; last fast day (Thursday) I made a caramel pie; I'd been meaning to but kept running into light days. Has to be refrigerated overnight anyway, so I just made it then had my usual treat (frozen kefir). Ironically, it didn't turn out as well as I'd expected, so I ended up eating only 2 pieces, my son had the rest (he's got much more of a sweet tooth than I do). Think I'll stick with lime pie in the future.
