This is the new thread for those fasters who forgo all food on a fasting day - consuming only liquid between the preceding day's evening meal, and the following day's breakfast.

Last week's thread is here:

This variation of 5:2 was inspired by Wildmissus, on this thread, begun in April:

There's no doubt that a substantial number of posters are happier without any food on a fast day . The reason for this, IMO, can be found here:

Well shows how we are all different. On Fast days my tummy rumbles most of the day until I eat and I find on feed days I don't get anywhere near as hungry - just eat cos I can rather than eat when I am hungry. To quote somewhere here - I could eat a scabby horse between 2 mattresses on Fast days, by mid afternoon, so I have an 8 cal hot choc and that sees me thru till dinner and I am not hungry after hot choc.
GMH my dad used to say "I could eat a hours e and chase the rider" but I agree with you there are some of us who manage better or so we think with something to keep our stomach from hitting our backbone.
All the best to liquid fasters today
All the best to fasters today. Its Queens Birthday holiday here in NZ so Im at home with OH trying to keep warm  and not fasting, will fast tomorrow, Tuesday, this week. Its so much easier to manage at work.
Sunday night here in the USA, but I will liquid fasting tomorrow. The liquid fast broke my plateau the first time I did it but I have done 4 so far and it has not speeded up my weight loss over eating the 500 calories. I was hoping it would. What you other liquid fasters found if you have done both? TY
Well I'm here and liquid fasting... although I just accidentally ate something. I was in the gourmet butcher who does the best European style meats in town. I was looking for a Polish style sausage to make some bigos for tomorrow, and the lady suggested trying one she'd cut, so I did, and it was perfect and I bought one, and half way to the car had the realisation DAMN! Bahahaha whoops! It did taste really good though, and one slice is not going to stop me doing the rest of this fast liquid only. I have my bigos to look forward to tomorrow.

Doey, I don't think I'm loosing weight any faster doing the 36 hours with close to zero calories vs eating. I do find it easier though, because I just don't have to think about food on fast days, and I don't get hungry. I find eating is what triggers my hunger. My weight loss is really slow, and I don't try and restrict what I eat on my non fast days at all I sometimes wonder if I should be a bit stricter and not snack on non fast days, or do 4:3, to get my weight loss happening faster, but then I think that there is no rush at all, if it takes a year to get to my goal weight, no big deal.
I am a 4:3 faster and this is my first post. I find that even though I do severe calorie restriction on my fast days (M,W,F), I have to eat roughage or I get very constipated. So, I eat celery, lettuce & vinegar, bran, and other "Zero Calorie" foods 2 or three times a day to "keep me moving". Total no more than 30-40 calories daily. Also lots and lots of liquid.
I am going to try a liquid only fast today. I did a 24hr last week without a problem but that was an extra to my normal two 36hr days.
I'm liquid fasting today. Already 14 hours and I haven't been very hungry. My sleep rhythms are crazy out-of-whack this week so I hope it doesn't affect my fasting ability too much. As usual I have to make it to lunchtime tomorrow before breaking.
I'm in today - last week didn't go quite to plan, so hoping being back to term time might mean a nice organised week.

Good luck everyone today - gorgeous sunshine through the train window.
Hi Katamac, sympathise with the casual eating thing. Did the smae thing a few weeks ago, soeone offered me a hot chip, and I took it and ate it without a thought!!. 2 mins later, realised what Id done, bugger!!

Will be 36 hour fasting tomorrow, good luck to all those on today
I have found myself reaching for an offered sweet on a fast day too, but always just remembered in time! I'm in today for a liquid fast, have maintained my weight from last week which is good really as I weighed after a fast day last week so wasn't a true weight, mind you i did do a 4:3 liquid fast last week, will update my progress tracker after I drop my little girl at school! Happy Monday fast all.
I'm in for a 36hr liquid fast today. It was the original thread that got me into this and I have to say a massive thank you for putting it in my mind as I now find fast days so much easier!

Good luck to all the other fasters today
I'm enjoying a green tea right now, and don't feel hungry, BUT my food coop order has just arrived and there is a 1kg bag of medjool dates just LOOKING at me. Mmmmmm. Might have to have a couple to break my fast in the morning - think it's a traditional way to break Ramadan fasts in the middle east? Almost feel like I should have one now as the sun sets.
I'm doing my second liquid only fast today, have been doing the 5:2 the traditional way for a while and am curious to see whether it has an effect on speed of weightloss. After the last liquids only day I was struggling with energy levels, anyone else found this? My day consists of green tea and water.
