Have you tried Ceylon cinnamon? Been reading about it's amazing properties and wondered whether to find some, looks like a web only job.

I adore cinnamon, but cut back after I read somewhere that too much coumarin could be toxic, although I suspect you would have to eat alot to get ill. What is so special about ceylon cinnamon @azureblue?

Apparently it's true cinnamon without the nasty stuff and a gentle taste.
I'll look for some info ...
"It is Better to Use Ceylon (“True” Cinnamon)
Not all cinnamon is created equal.
The Cassia variety contains significant amounts of a compound called coumarin, which is believed to be harmful in large doses.
All cinnamon should have health benefits, but Cassia may cause problems in large doses due to the coumarin content.
Ceylon (“true” cinnamon) is much better in this regard, and studies show that it is much lower in coumarin than the Cassia variety (38).
Unfortunately, most cinnamon found in supermarkets is the cheaper Cassia variety.
You may be able to find Ceylon in some health food stores, and there is a good selection on Amazon."

There's a whole thing about it on dietdoctor.com

Lovely burgers @rawkaren.
Had a fantastic meal last Saturday at James Martins restaurant in Manchester. Waygu beef was amazing. Best steak my BIL has ever had apparently.
Low carb does prove to involve more meat for me. But I don't mind that.

Look away if you're a vegetarian. Ox cheek, tongue, smoked mashed potato (probably with butter! And loads of it ) and bone marrow not so keen on that ( especially as I used to prepare and examine bone marrow samples from leukaemic animals for diagnosis).

This looks interesting. http://catalyticlongevity.org/the-cc-carbohydrate-concentrated-diet//. It suggests that, whatever level of carbs are eaten, they are best consumed in the same meal.

Interesting reading. I notice at the end of the article it states, " If you’re still not losing weight you mayl need to decrease the amount of carbohydrates you consume and you should consider choosing lower fat cuts of meat and reduced fat dairy products and minimizing use of added oils."

If you have trouble losing weight it seems reducing the carbs and calories is always the answer. I have noticed that to be true... and that is why I fast and eat low carb.

"Caloric restriction and intermittent fasting are the only proven methods for extending lifespan and preserving youthfulness in animal experiments to date."
Yep... going to stick with fasting of some sort rather than meals all day. Thank you for the article. Gives me that encouragement to keep it up.

Eating all your carbs in one meal can make you extremely hungry. Objective experience with the carbohydrates addicts diet reported on the old lc newsgroup was that a lot of people had trouble with this. It worked best for extremely heavy people, probably because carbs raise blood sugar less, the larger you are.

Re cinnamon, all studies claiming benefits for it were done with cassia, but few held up to scrutiny.

My Ceylon cinnamon has arrived and tastes gorgeous! Subtle and continuing flavour pours like velvet round my mouth! Wonderful on greek yogurt or stirred into real coffee, I can only recommend you try it.
If it does have health benefits too it's all to the good :0)

@Azureblue, I've been havering about ordering from Ceylon Cinnamon site - I may well be emboldened given that you've had such a positive experience. Did you order the powder, the quills, or the oil?

I bought a 250g bag of pale powder from Amazon and sprinkle a small half teaspoon hither and thither, it's really nice :0)

Hi everybody, nice to meet other faster/low carbers. I lost about 13 on fasting 5:2 after years of yoyoing and finally deciding not to diet any more. Then we went on a trip for six weeks and I put on four kg (i am 5'3" and currently weigh 73 kg and I am 71). I went fasting again for six weeks just before Christmas and only lost 200g which was very disheartening and then decided to do low carbs for a while and keep fasting a day or two a week for health. I had a look at the Atkins website and they say 20 carbs per day is good if you want to shift some weight so that's what I am doing. I will review it when I get to 70kg (lost 1.8 kg the first week and a kilo and a bit the second). To help with carb counting there is a free download I have on the ipad which is great. I don't eat bread cos it uses too much of my daily allowance and just have cheese, meats, veg (mainly leafy and those that grow above ground - more sparing with root veg, and nuts plus I drink 2 litres of water a day. I have three hot drinks with cream a day, yum.

Hi @Bebar, and welcome! I am also trying low carb, though only for a short while as I don't intend to give up sugary foods for good...
But only 20g a day!? I couldn't get below 50g if I tried!! So much food does have some carbs, and small amounts still add up, even without fruit and starchy veggies. So I salute you for being able to do this! Best wishes. :clover:
I will report on my "experiment" later...

Hello @Bebar, windy Welly is a nice part of the world! And @Sassy1 too! I am in here for a while, but like you Sassy, I need my sweet (read chocolate) fixes every so often, but I am trying to get that with bulletproof mochas.
I am trying the Times mix of fat and protein to get myself off the plateau as well as fasting. At least this way if I fail a fast I can eat some fat!!
Good luck

Nice to hear from both of you. Yes Wellyis a nice place to live and Tassy is a place I intend to visit some time as the scenery there looks stunning. With my 20carbs I eat not much fruit as it's too costly carbwise and have fried ham, eggs and tomatoes for breakfast (yum) and a hot drink with cream three times a day. That fills me tIll night time and then I have meat and brocolli and carrots and a salad. No bread or crackers, but sometimes some hummus (low carbs and nice) or cheese. And 2 litres of water with a lemon juice icecube in it. Sometimes some almonds and a couple of brazils nuts. Pretty plain fare eh, but nice stuff and I dont go hungry and I am at last continuing to lose weight. All the best.

Agree entirely, no sense of deprivation at all with that sort of food is there? And hopefully it will keep me away from the sugar as that is my major downfall. Once I start, I am like a pig in a trough sometimes and just can't stop, so occasionally I allow myself to do that once in a while to get it out of my system, mostly on a day off so I can get a heavy gym session in at the same time!
We can all cheer each other on in here!
