74g carbs today - that includes the bedtime snack of Allbran!
Curried cauli soup for lunch and puy lentil salad with feta for supper. 661 cals all day. Hope that'll help banish the 14 ounces I put on over the weekend!
14 ounces? Pah!

Pah indeed ! I'm sure you can bat them away

I usually liquid fast on a Monday, but tonight have had 70g of home cooked ham - really enjoyed it, and it hasn't started the hunger pangs, so might do this again. Really looking forward to a cooked breakfast in the morning.

 Back on my low carb routine again starting at lunchtime Tues I'm returning willingly because I feel really bloated after refeeding + resting my body but I could only do 4 days at 3 meals each day I can't do anymore, my meal tonight wasn't to high in carbs as I made meat+potato" pie" for me replacing the pots with celeriac squash + turnip and obviously no pastry with added vegetables to garnish so a small start at least so my days will be 16:8 plus a fast on Thursday  I am so looking forward to no breakfast tomorrow and I never thought I would truthfully say that
another lesson learned.

Be sure and add some thing xtra tasty to it, SD; a bit of horseradish sauce, mustard or spices.
I mix it with some crushed cannellini beans for added fibre!

Have got some cannellini beans, and love horseradish, so will get some tomoz. We are lucky we have one of those great green grocers just across the road from work, lovely veg and fruit, not to mention bird seed and fatballs, and lots of condiments, herbs, and jars of peppers etc ... Have to put up with the canny owners talking non- stop about the Toon's latest performance and cursing Alan Pardue though!

Scrolling through the chatty chat chat in here you're all having such fun. Ok I'm going to try celeriac and try reducing rice.
I almost feel a sick feeling when a plate has no carbs.
I am keeping carbs much lower, but how low do I need to go? Doctor said 70gms other doc said 120. I have insulin resistance so I guess the lower the better.
Please tell me I can still have my two cups of milk a day?
I like pumpkin in low quantities and rice probably twice a week I have a cup of cooked rice.
Half cup of potatoes in a soup makes a big difference too.

I will come back later.
Have a lovely day evening sleep whatever you're doing.

@jo05 do you record your carbs anywhere? I use My fitness pal, and have set it to record total cals, carbs, fibre, protein etc.
I aim for around 70g for 5 days and around 100/20 the other 2.
Re: 2014 Low Carbers Tent

@jo05 I aim for 50g a day 5 days a week (have a lot less on fast days), but don't worry at the weekends if I am going out.

Tonights dinner delicious - turkey and ham in gravy (from freezer made at Christmas from leftovers) on a cauli/celeriac mash.

I remember that slight sick feeling when I originally did Atkins, but I've experimented a fair bit, and now prefer meals without potatoes, rice etc. As I've never been a big fan of lentils, beans or fruit, its fairly easy to stay under 50g a day.

@jo05 Don't forget that the amount of carbs in a food isn't the full weight of the food. So when it says you can only have 50 grams of carbs its not 50grams of potato its more like 50grams of potato will give you 7.5 grams of carbs.
Hmmm! that didn't come out righ, I hope you got my gist.

Finding myself wanting rice and pasta, even though I've almost given up bread. I'm hoping good meal planning and the use of fats will help me go lower on carbs, but not higher on cals.
Not taking up 16.8 yet – just seeing if one fast a week and low carbs are going to go smoothly first.
Thanks @PennyForthem, I've held back from being too fussy recording things on non-fast days, as there has been so much calculating on fast days.
But I might have to start counting carbs now as I'm only doing a 34hr fast once a week.
I told my doctor today your figures and he agreed, saying also I could go even lower. (hmmm). I ate a plate of pasta tonight, kinda last supper atmosphere here. LOL

Thanks @Minumonline. Are you also counting the carbs in peas, onions, squash, cabbage, aubergine etc? What do you get for your 50 carbs? Do you also watch protein?

Thanks for thinking of me in your post on another thread @Sue.Q I certainly have 16.8 on my to-do list, and I imagine I will start that change in about two weeks. I'm still nervous just doing one fast a week, but I found I was dragging my feet from sleep deprivation. I'm excited to get back to 5.2 or 16.8 when I can.

I hope you're all going well.

I decided to make a huge effort for 4 weeks and reduce my carb intake dramatically as a personal experiment. I found it easy once I got my head round the different food values, I just totted them up in my head and aimed for a maximum of 50grms each day. Some days I went over, some were a lot less so I probably averaged the 50gms. It was easy and not too different from what I had been doing for the previous 18 months, I also raised my fat intake, not that it was low anyway. I can't say it make a huge difference but then I was already rarely eating bread, potatoes, rice and pasta as part of my weight loss/ management regime. It certainly dropped weight from me but that only meant I could eat more, so I did. Last night I had my first piece of toast for about a year and I also had some cinnamon biscuits and guess what? my weight was down today by a couple of pounds.....fluke or what........mmmmmm. I certainly feel better on a lower carb diet but I definitely do not deprive myself and I have slipped into a routine where I eat and drink whatever I want at weekends and by Monday I am desperate for a day without food so I tend to water fast most Mondays. The only foods I consciously avoid, because I no longer want them, are pies, pastries, ready made meals, cakes etc.

@Jo05 yes, I've resorted to counting everything - therein lies success for me.
Carbs lurk in the most surprising places - milk, onions, tomatoes - in fact, for example, most of my 56g of carbs yesterday came from vegetable origin, except 11g from a bedtime snack bar!
I also watch protein and fibre.
I'm 64, so feel it's important for me, at my age, to monitor my intakes. I'm also now doing half an hour a day on the treadmill/exercise bike. Makes me sleep well!

You're young @PennyForthem!! :like: :victory: :clover: You have done soooooo well on the 5.2.
I hope to be like you at some point.

I'm moving close to 50 and either i've built up more wisdom or age gives you a big kick along. But I feel quite determined this time, even though I'm nervous it wont work.
I will count carbs, and try to stay under 100 this week. Next week drop to 80. I love my 2 cups of milk a day (about to have one now before bed) and also my oats in the morning. Then I have salad for lunch with meat and a lot of steam veg with tried tofu or meat or lentils. Except this week im going the rice and pasta which has to stop.
I have visions of hardly anything on your plate lol. Please tell me you're getting enough? Do you have treats now and then too?
Thanks so much for the advice.

It came out perfectly right @Julieathome. Thanks so much for the tip. I'm pretty good at working out carbs, but its been decades since i've looked at cals. I'm almost fainting reading some of the cals. I don't know how people manage to eat anything who are savy with cals. I had 20 macadamias today (counted out ten and then hit a weak spot and had another 10)..omg that was 400 gulps cals.
I'm enjoying fast day due to the knowledge I'm getting about calories.
hope all is well.
