@Ballerina You've summed up where I am perfectly ! Really enjoying the low carb, high fat food, and 50g carb limit is easy when eating at home in the week. What stopped me low-carbing last time was the weekends out where carbs were often the only option (and yummy). So now I can have carbs at the weekend (not as many, as I don't want them), and fast on a Monday to repair, all is well, and sustainable
But I still take the precaution of not having food in that I shouldn't eat, and might tempt me. So if I buy any sweet treats, or grain goods in, I only buy individual ones, for a specific treat.
@jo05, Yes, I count all food, and use the carb count in MFP to check, until I have re-educated myself, and know what 50g carbs per day looks like. Yesterdays carbs came from splash of milk for my coffee, veg, nat yoghurt, and 2 squares of dark chocolate

I have visions of hardly anything on your plate lol. Please tell me you're getting enough? Do you have treats now and then too?
Thanks so much for the advice.
Jo
I had so much on my plate last night, I left some:
100g quorn mince, peppers, mushrooms, cauliflower, tomatoes, spinach, edamame beans and celeriac, all cooked in a 'curry' (with home made curry powder).
I'd had rollmop herring for lunch. I don't have a sweet tooth, but my downfall is cheese. Parmesan especially! A big hunk of it!

That does sound lovely! I'm going to buy more meat substitute the last batch I got I
Liked even more than beef. It also has a texture like a carb which I
Like. Thanks so much Jo ps on iPhone tagging almost impossible.
Heads of to sleep feeling more connected to my goals.

Greetings Low Carbers! I am new to 5:2 (completed my first fast yesterday) but not to low carbing. I have only been moderately successful at losing on LC, but it's not the fault of the program, totally the fault of the user. I know that when I am really sticking to the goals I set for myself, I do well. I have always lacked the discipline for the long term.
I now have some health issues that while they can't be eliminated by losing the extra poundage, they can be somewhat alleviated -- so it's time to get serious, time to be free of this fat body...so here I am trying the 5:2 WOE.

it's time!

I find it a real challenge to keep my carbs down below 60g, as I eat mainly vegan food. I very occasionally eat a little fish, eggs or cheese, perhaps once a month for each. My main protein sources are therefore nuts, legumes and lentils which are not particularly low in carbohydrate; I will have tofu occasionally, but I don't particularly like it. However, I need to continue in my attempt to limit my carbohydrate intake in order to keep blood glucose levels under control. Fortunately I don't have a sweet tooth, so that part of the equation is easy. Avoiding cow's and goat's milk is also helpful, but I eat yoghurt every few days.
According to My Fitness Pal, today's carb intake from tomato and lentil soup and a little goat's yoghurt with seeds was 53g. I hate soya yoghurt, but I read something recently about someone making yoghurt from almond milk and coconut milk. I think I'll experiment with those. I eat a little yoghurt every so often in order to assist a digestive system which ha become a little sluggish with this way of eating. I mix yoghurt with psyillium husks and ground flax seeds.
Each day seems to bring a new challenge and just as I resolve one difficulty, I seem to become aware of another. Well, I suppose it keeps me on my toes!

Hi @Bracken, I can only admire you for trying to take a low-carb vegan approach: I'm following a veggie one and it is very do-able, but I don't think I'd have a hope without my eggs and dairy!
Is anyone else trying vegan low-carb? Anyone (b)logging it? It would be massively interesting!
Cheers, FatDog

Oops - gone over target today - mainly due to an EAT soup at lunch - it was Hungarian goulash, so I assumed fat and proteins, but there were potatoes in it. Should have gone for the red pepper and goats cheese. I've learnt where to look online for the nutrient info now though, so OK for future visits.
Anyway, still modest, and a yummy day.

Yay ! This low-carb thing is working. Finally, after my mega plateau, I can announce that as of this morning I've lost 10kg since starting 5:2 So so pleased. Celebrating with a buttery mushroom omelette to break my fast.
Well done Minumonline, you are doing really well. My own push to lower my carb intake is doing fine but had a great big fail last night as biscuits mysteriously found their way into my mouth and as if that wasn't bad enough some wine decided to follow them, lovely, and no harm done on the scales as I weighed in at the lower end of my fluctuation margin this morning. Keep up the good work

PS - I never count the carbs in wine Glad you got away the biscuit treat

To be honest I don't count them either, naughty or what? I never counted the calories either and it didn't stop my weight loss so.....? Cheers...oops!

Well @ballerina I thought you had to wash the biscuits down with red wine.
