Re: Sassy Seniors Sanctuary

Well - it's official! I've broken the dog! :dog: In my mission to get fitter, I have bought a fitbit (basically a fancy pedometer, for those who don't know) and for the last two weeks I have been walking much more than usual - 2 or 3 miles a day. Of course, Susie - the dog ,(eleven years old today!) has come too but just recently I have noticed that she was limping when she got up from laying down for a while (I know that feeling!) We went to the vet's this morning and she has arthritis in one of her hips, so she is on three or four short walks a day - no more than twenty minutes at a time. I don't know how she will react when I go out on my own for the longer walks - one very disconsolate dog, I suspect! :frown:

I only had one. We walked 7.4kilometres round the zoo and he played in all 5 playgrounds as well-one of them twice! He is now bouncing around playing on th Wii with his younger brother who was at school today. Just what does it take to wear a 7year old out!

@Merlin, I think that the short order is that you can't!

My husband and I are off to Germany next week to look after our two granddaughters for a week while their parents have a week's holiday. We're looking forward to it but know that we will come back ready for a week's holiday ourselves!

Um, is this place coming to a natural end?
Quieter than a school room mid summer ...

As I lay awake in the tropical sweating heat of yet another night sweat/hot flush last night it occurred to me that I've been in this state for 13 years now.
Thirteen continuous day and night hot flashed years.
Last 2-3 years don't they?
Annoyed and exhausted by this body madness I wonder if it is affecting the length of my telomeres and shortening my life too?
I've tried all sorts of quackery to attempt stopping them, nothing touched it. The doc had no solution either, cancer/stroke being prevalent in my immediate family knocked HRT on the head.
I'm guessing that they're here for life at this point, waking me three times a night, dissolving me publicly by day, preventing me from living forever

Thank you CM {{{+}}} Nothing so far.

Downton Abbey on ITV in an hour and 4 minutes, hope they've remembered to develop a plot!

I'm sorry to hear of your hot flushes Azureblue it must be very uncomfortable for you, but you are well advised to avoid HRT because I'm sure it contributed to my breast cancer that appeared after four years of taking HRT. That was thirteen years ago & my GP was very surprised & apologetic & they seem to know better now.
I am just popping back to say hello having been absent for some time! Holidays & various family celebrations have filled my last few months with most recently my son getting married. I am rather dreading seeing the photos of me because I didn't manage to lose as much weight as I would have liked. We have also been trying to sell our house & had fewer than expected viewings. We were going to move to a new retirement village being built near us but have re-thought how expensive the move plus the ongoing maintenance fees would be. Also if we soon become grandparents the house we are in would better accommodate family staying with us. I found that it is ingredebly stressful trying to keep the house looking immaculate just in case someone wants to view & we are fed up with the whole thing now. I am getting back into the back at school routine with my Latin & Roman History classes starting this week. I am also just starting a free course on Futurelearn about Hadrian's Wall & life for Romans on the British Frontier. I am dreading the colder weather with the darker evenings because we have had such bright weather during the summer & September. I am joining in the Christmas Challenge & hope after a very slow weight loss this year to try & get below 30 BMI & into the just overweight zone & my interim goal of 12 stone! I have just had a deep varicose vein diagnosed in one leg & have been prescribed surgical stockings to wear  so glamourous!!

Oooh bless you @Isis, don't like the sound of that vein, you're right to want to drop your weight to ease up on that leg. Onwards with 5:2 or 17/7 m'dear.

I'm back eating Kallo rice cakes in all their tasty variations as an easy alternative to bread (or even gluten free oatcakes, which though nice are quite small and higher carb). Rice is the least offensive of the grains apparently so that's today's revelation :0). I am still trying to keep my carb intake below 80g and sugars below 25g a day whilst Having A Life.

 :geek:

Thank you Azureblue  I now have my stockings & holding them up with this special hosiery glue  suspenders under jeans I feel is going too far
Celebrating & relieved at the moment because we have taken our house off the market & we have decided to stay put! Partly due to family that may want to come & stay & we have spare bedrooms here & also the cost of moving! We can spend more on away times now
