Hosiery glue, @Isis, I didn't know that such a thing existed! Sorry about your varicose vein but the solution seems almost as bad!
I think that it's a good move to take your house of the market and it's a good idea to have room for visiting family. I have one daughter currently living in Germany and one permanently in Madrid and when we all get together it's great to have room to accommodate them, their husbands, two granddaughters and my son and his partner without having to resort to blow up mattresses etc!
Moving house can be terribly stressful and if you don't have to then I certainly wouldn't bother. Those retirement complexes seem to be incredibly expensive and, as you say, the service charges can be crazy! I am hoping that we can stay in our current house until they carry us out but with a half acre garden, in quite an isolated position, it may prove too much eventually. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, I guess!

@Azureblue, the menopause can be a nightmare but thirteen years sounds more than a little excessive! :curse: Unlike Isis, I did try the HRT and ended up being on it for about fifteen years - with a very short break after five years. That very short break was a nightmare, so the doc put me back on the HRT quite quickly - after explaining the drawbacks. It was a lifesaver as I was still working and the hot flushes made teaching very difficult because they made me really bad-tempered! Just what you don't want when dealing with a class of Year 3 and 4 children! It worked for me so, unless you have a family history of breast cancer, it might be worth a try.

Have a good weekend everyone!

@isis No I've not heard of hosiery glue either I hope the stockings are making a difference for you, I was wondering if you'd ever moved into that retirement complex, our house isn't very big and we do like having the option of putting up guests on occasion,
we also saved time and money because we never "up sized" therefore don't need to downsize lol
I've been awol as we're very busy at home with jobs on the go plus away at weekend so I'm doing some packing today.
I'm weighing in on Sunday this week for the challenge which I'm not going to meet but hey ho I've obviously gone into holiday mode!!
I'm also still aiming higher than seems probable with xmas goal but have decided to just go for it with a new set of determination on my return with what'll no doubt be a very big gain as usual.
Change if life am I lucky or what because I've never had anything really no hit flushes at all, did have few mini night ones but @Azureblue 13 years that's an awfully long stretch for you and still suffering you're made of strong stuff lady.

13 years @AzureBlue? OMG I didn't want to hear that. I've been suffering for 7 years and am living in hope that the end of them is not too far away. I keep thinking that it's no point starting HRT as they are sure to ease up soon...hmmm...might be worth thinking again. And maybe you should too?

Medically unsafe for me, sadly, having had a lump removed 15 years ago and parents died of stroke and cancer.
On fast days the hot flushes are a small island of heat on an otherwise very cold glacier, blue hands and feet aren't as pretty as they should be.
I'm at that tricky point on a fast day where my head is screaming for food food food but I want to get to at least 6pm if not 7pm before eating today.
And there's the hot flush spreading down from my head, bouncing up from my feet and no doubt shortening my telomeres.
Help.

Azureblue do you know about the cooling pillows you can buy? Amazon & M&S sell them & it's also possible to buy cooling bed linen that I think sort of wicks moisture away!
At night I find I generally feel more comfortable with a cooler face but because of cold feet wear double layer walking socks as bed socks  not a very feminine look but it works for me. Also would cold water in a hot water bottle help?

Oops, 20 years and counting but I have to say that I am not suffering as I was 20 years ago but they still catch me unawares, just not quite so often. I suspect that @Azureblueand I are two of the few women for whom it never really stops, it just peters out gradually over the years. I also will never take HRT due to breast cysts and embolisms plus the fact that my sister died of breast cancer and my mother also had it by the time she died at 91 although I suppose it is difficult to count 91 years of age as a significant risk. anyway, hope you all fare a bit better, statistics are on your side ladies so panic not

I have the pillows and turn them over and over. I have a flannel to hand to mop my face, a bed jacket that's easy to put on and off, thick bed socks and a spare bed made up for when I can't get back to sleep and need to read and not disturb OH!
I can't remember the last time I just slept through the night, probably 12 years ago, up until then I slept like a log, barring feeding babies of course.
It's all a bit exhausting.
We should all get together and write a book to warm the young 'uns what's a comin'!

Oh dear poor you!Azureblue I really feel for you. My GP prescribed sleeping tablets for me when my OH snores on the understanding that I would only occasionally take them when I desperately needed knocking out! My OH no longer snores because of losing weight with 5:2ing but I still have some of the tablets just in case. I know sleeping tablets are dangerously addictive but there may be other non addictive sleeping remedies such as homeopathic or camomile? A friend says night nurse knocks her out as an unintentional side effect!
I do hope that you can find something that will help.

The only time I have hot flushes is when I have too many carbs.

@Azureblue I'm sorry to hear of your hot flushes - for 13 years, that's incredible. We men don't know the half of it!

But have you tried acupuncture - I've had a look around and came up with this, which may help:

You never know, it might help. ATB to you, anyway.

Thank you dear friends, acupuncture tried ... And no help! Out of the whole course I had one day when I felt an improvement.
Hey ho on I go :0)
I'm trying a teaspoon of coconut butter at bedtime as well as breakfast as the Dr Myhill website pointed me towards this under the hypoglycaemic heading. Also 1000mg of vitamin C at breakfast and another with dinner. I did this last night and slept through 7 hours, amazing for me. OH wondered if it was a psychological coincidence. We'll see.
High fat, medium protein and low carb today, a stonking 1760 cals as a result but no snacking as I felt full.

@azureblue I have no suggestions, being one of those people who sailed through the menopause without realising it was even happening.
That doesn't mean I don't empathise with you, as I am a complete stresshead and can wake in the night in a complete flap and panic. I am taking matters into my own hands now and, being 65 next month, I have decided to stop stocking shops with chutney. I will be my own boss completely now, not dependent on their whims! Markets and events, but no shop orders. I hope to sleep better.
This doesn't help you, of course, but do look at anything that is stressing you, however insignificant.
