First fast today!!
04 Mar 2013, 18:42
Today is my first day of the program and first fast day! I made it until 1:30 with just coffee and water but am now working (slowly!) on a bowl of delicious chicken noodle soup. I think I could have gone until dinner except for the fact that I had a meeting and resisted some yummy food that made me hungry! But I didn't give into the bad stuff, so yay for that! This soup is 140 cals for the whole bowl but I'm not sure if I will eat it all anyway. My husband started with me today but haven't yet how he is doing.

Anyway, we are both very excited to do this program and hopefully get some good results! I would like to lose about 40 lbs. (or about 3 stones). Looking for some good meals we can make for dinner - not just the boring ol' baked chicken and veggies we have a lot. Guess I will hit up the recipe forums!

Hope y'all are having a great day!!

Hi Lindsey! (& Moogie),

I am new too, and I'm also 1/2 through my first day of fasting. I'm attempting to make it to 5:30 pm before I eat all of my 500 cals at once (Fist to the sky!), though I sort of wish I had some 140 cal soup on hand. Good idea. This mug of green tea is going to have to get me through ....

The info on this forum has been incredibly helpful, and I am hoping to lose 20 lbs by the end of May. Trying to be patient about it, 1-1.5 lbs a week. Let's do this! High five & wish you the best

Almost at the end of my fast day and can't wait to go sleep and say hello to feast day. I found splitting my 500 calories throughout the day was best for me and I haven't really felt super hungery, till now lol, glad I've done it and feel more confident with the diet. :victory:

It's also my first fast day. I decided I was going to try to go completely without calories. I've had 2 cups of black coffee and a bunch of water. I get hungry and gulp more water to fill up. I'd love to eat.....but trying to decide if I should continue to make it thru the day without eating (only have 5 hours to go), or if it's best to eat something. Any thoughts?

Tricky. For me I know a small snack would make me feel worse so I'd try to bring the meal forward a bit if possible and just drink more. I find a cup of hot bouillon or miso soup or similar really helps (brain thinks it's a really thin actual soup maybe?!),

Just heard about the book (here in the US) and read it all in one fell swoop, even watched the video--not too much difference from the book I realized but it proved interesting to have the material reinforced.
I've fasted before so don't think I will have any problem with one day--in fact, that is what attracted me to this method. I know I can cut off my hunger feelings, but what is new for me is actually eating some little thing during the day. I had some oatmeal porridge in the morning and think I'll have some soup later in the day, complemented with a few cups of black java, haha. Looking forward to all the great health benefits and believe that this 5-2 approach will be easier to maintain over longer periods of time.
My biggest challenge will be knowing how much to eat at any one time on the fast day. I'll go back and look at the pictures of portion size again, haha.

Hi Tompan and welcome

If you are used to fasting, 5:2 will be a breeze! You don't have to eat anything on a fast day if you don't want too. Most people do though but around half of us are waiting until the evening before eating anything (so a total fast for around 20-24 hours and then a light meal) then fasting again until next morning. Not eating all day seems easier as it doesn't trigger hunger pangs. The evening meal helps with sleep as you're not going to bed on an empty stomach. Also less worry about portion sizes! If you stick to non-starchy vegetables and just a small amount of fish, chicken etc (under say 4oz) you could get away without calorie counting I reckon. The my fitness pal website (or app) is great for working out the calorie content of your proposed meal.

There is a "fasting today" thread each day where you can drop in and chat with others fasting that day. Hope to see you there!

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Thanks for the support, y'all! And back at ya! I love the positive motivation all around this site!

I hope those fasting yesterday made it through (mostly) pain-free. :) My husband and I really didn't think it was too bad. We had a yummy dinner of stir fried chicken breast, broccoli, squash and cabbage with soy sauce, sesame oil and sriracha. Low cal and delicious. We didn't even feel deprived. I know we can keep it up - I just hope we see some good results! I'm not super hungry today or anything either. Next fast: Thursday!

Sending good vibes and strength out to you all! Let's keep it up!

I made it thru my first fast without eating anything. 2 cups of black coffee and almost a gallon of water. I felt pretty good all day, but my tummy was crabbing at me in the evening. :) During the night I woke up chilled and this morning I felt and still feel shakey. I had coffee with cream and sugar right away, thinking my blood sugar was off. About 4 hours after I got up, I had 2 slices of french toast and 4 sausage links. Wasn't real hungry, but thought I should eat. Still feel a little funny. Like jittery. My husband thinks it's my metabolism kicking and my body getting used to this new feeding arrangement. I'm not hungry at all and feel kind of full. I guess that's a good thing. I won't eat as much on my feast day!

Congrats to both of you! I made it through my first fast as well, and I had a meal (slightly over 500 cal) at 4:30 pm. But I was able to make it through the rest of the night OK. Woo hoo! Next up, Thursday ....

Great job, guys! :) I thought I might be hungrier on my feast day after my first fast, but I really wasn't. Just normal. Cool!

That's a great feeling isn't it? waking up not hungry after a fast day, I normally don't eat until nearly lunch time the day after a fast
