Not losing weight?

Help us to help you! Please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!
Remember, we're not here to judge, we're here to help.

RunningOlsen has very articulately put everything I wanted to say already. Especially in his second post.
Yes Winny, great posts from Olsen! second post in particular resonated with me x
Even at age 64 i have still not totally shaken off the illusion i have to look " good" i.e., no lumps and bumps - to make me loveable
Sad isnt it,my intellect knows that's wrong but in my heart i can't quite believe it of myself.
For others tho, i am much more forgiving and appreciate them for who they are,not how they look on the outside.
I agree with what everyone's said, especially @RunningOlsen

I would also like to add that 1kg per week, aside from being extremely difficult when you are near a healthy BMI, is not considered a safe rate of weight loss.

Good luck!
Hi guys

Thank you do much again for all your posts and thoughtful input.

Candice, your post made be realise how silly the xtreme fat loss diet is. How would I ever explain this to my son. Lol

Running Olsen, yes I'm madly in love With my husband that is . Lol. He has been with me through various shapes and sizes. From a super skinny 51 kg to a whopping 88 kg at the end of my pregnancy.
I Was always quite slim and had a great body and I want to be in good shape for my visit home as I only see some of my friends every few years. My mum who lives overseas was quite terrible to me yesterday when I mentioned how pregnancy wrecked my body. I actually meant it more health wise as I had a traumatic pregnancy that left me unable to walk in the last trimester and still needing physio. I only now feel strong enough to exercise again. She jumped on it straight away telling me I could have done something to lose weight and to look at how slim Heidi Klum is after so many pregnancies. I was almost lost for words!! She always does that picking on my weight gain etc.
mind you my mum is actually very overweight so I don't know why she gas to out me gown like that for just being a little bit chubby. I could go on and on about it but that's probably outside the scope of this forum.
Anyway. I figured I need to lose weight for myself and not for others.
I know I would be miserable doing the 25 days extreme fat loss diet and I'm blown away by the results of 5:2. So I decided to maybe try 4:3 for two weeks and have a no carb dinner on my feed days to see if i can lose more weight. I will also aim for 10,000 steps a day and ordered a fancy pants pedometer from amazon today. That's the plan. Thank you so much guys again. Really appreciate you non judgemental posts.

Xox.
That sounds better Annett76, desperation is an unwanted stress that adds weight not reduces it, so away with the negative and on with the positive.
Low carb, high good fat (coconut oil, avocado, butter) certainly is the way forward, with two good fasts a week and have a look at the HIIT threads too.
Very best of luck m'dear :0)
Hi Annett76
As well as the 4:3 plan - have you thought about buying a couple of new outfits before you go away? Clothes can add pounds to you or they can be very slimming if you pick the right style. Failing that a 'suck it all in corset' I wore recently for a wedding does the trick! Good luck and mostly enjoy your holiday.
Go for a realistic goal for the time you have till the big day. A lot less stress and you will be well on the way to truly good health.

Yes, do 4:3 not 5:2 for good measure in my opinion.. but no other extreme method before the trip. The kg's you do lose will be significant anyway even if not desired amount.

Then after trip, sit back and relax and you have a whole year ahead of you to lose more.
Are you trying to lose fat or just change the number on the scale?

Those crash diets make it look like you lost weight, but all you are really losing is the glycogen stored in your liver and muscles--that's a substance your body uses to store carbohydrate for immediate use--and water. When you burn glycogen, you also release a lot of water. Hence the dramatic weight loss.

It comes back as soon as you start eating normally.

The other "weight" you lose is the weight of food in your stomach, since you eat less.

So unless you are trying to lose scale weight for something like qualifying for a wrestling weight class, rather than getting rid of fat, dieting in ways that manipulate the scale rather than burning weight is a mistake. And some of those extreme diets will also a) burn away muscle, which is very unhealthy and b) screw up your metabolism making you more prone to gain weight in the future.
Me.I would just do 5:2 before your visit home. They will all see you differently.
At least if weight is mentioned, replying that you are doing a Way of Life Diet and explaining it to the family, may have them admire you and follow your lifestlye. The health benefits truly outweigh (pun) the desperate loss of weight prior to your visit. Now isn't that a healthy and happy way to live.
I agree with the advice you've been receiving here and congratulate you on your progress. I'm worried about the emotional family interactions you've hinted at.

Is it possible to avoid the topic of weight and body shape during your time away? Maybe you can have some other topics, some subject-changers ready to deploy. I often rehearse what I might say about certain things when on my way to a family holiday. It helps to be prepared.

Good luck-- :like:
Hey @RunningOlsen - just want to say a big thanks for your very insightful comments on this thread. Am so impressed I have forgotten to clock the spelling of our original poster (Annet?) so I can say to her:-

You are so much more than just what you weigh.

Anyone, family included, that judges you on such a one-dimensional criteria...is rather shallow.

Congrats on discovering 5:2 - it will become one of your best friends! I am sure there are not too many of us who don't wish we had tried this WOE when we very first heard about it! I only started last November....but already I am looking forward to seeing how much progress I can make in a year. If that means that I am still overweight throughout the summer...then that is just the way it is going to be - though next summer will be sooooo different! Plus, this WOE is so sustainable, it is a lovely feeling to know that I need never be this weight again (until I get to goal of course!).

My best advice would just be to echo what everyone else on here has said - so take time to read all that is on offer here.....for inspiration and support.

Good luck with whatever method you choose to lose weight with before May! Hope to see you on here again also.....

Hi Guys

So I have had another great loss this week so far and my size 14 pants are getting too big. It feels so good!!!
@Maggie: Yes, I will definately get some new clothes. I wish all clothes would come in colour block. lol

@Marybeth: I always try to change topic when my mum starts asking about my weight. Last year after seeing me for the first time in more than 1.5 years and when seeing her grandson for the first time the first thing she said was' You did get fuller in your face, didn't you?' I turned around straight away as after 24 hours of hell, flying with a 10 month old this was the last thing I needed to hear.

Anyway, this WOE seems to be going really well with my body and it seems to be actual fat that I'm losing as I list nearly 3 cms around my waist. I actually only measured my waist about one week after I started 5:2 as I was too scared to measure before.

Will try my first fast day at work tomorrow. Let's see how that goes.

You're going really well Annette. You have to be your own friend and give yourself the kindness that your mum is unable to give you? Perhaps go to the index page and look for the sub forum fastonbury glamping grounds then click on ' mountaineering tent' . a lot of helpful support and discussions on mother issues there.
Xxx
Thanks heaps Julianna. Will do.

julianna beat me to it! The mountaineer tent will be very helpful for you.
You may find that doing 5:2 and sticking with it and the results it brings improves your self image, confidence and sense of control. Some of us are finding that difficult relationships with food spill over into life (or it may be the other way ;) ) and , as we progress on the 5:2 journey, many other things improve.
You are doing so well, keep at it - it can only get better.
Wishing you well and lots of support from the forum
