FAST DAY!!

done a bit of a boob and I'm not sure how detrimental it is/will be. Nothing MAJOR, only, since I've come to work out my calories for today, I have gone over a bit. According to MFP I've had 650 today.... over 2 meals.

I've decided as a way to keep in check my calories, I'm not going to bother 'cooking' and trying to work out how many g of pepper, how mang g of green beans, how many g of onion etc.... I'm just going to have 'something' that I know is 500 calories - so, like a ready meal, or tin of soup or something like that, a shop bought meal/sandwich... as I'm finding it tricky to work out the calories for a 'homecooked' meal...

Will it be really detrimental to my weeks efforts for the fact I've had 650 calories today instead of 500?

Other than that, i've had a good day. Had my 'graze' snack for lunch and black coffee or green tea the rest of the day and just had my pork stirfry meal about 7:30.

Does anyone else feel 'guilty' about even eating the 500 calories?? becasue, being honest - I do. Would it be unwise to JUST have tea/coffee on the FAST days and not even have the 500 calories??

Thanks x

ok,... so felt good going to bed last night after fast day in the end, even if i did have more than 500 cals. :/
Slept well... enjoyed my porridge with some banana and blueberries this morning. I went out with a couple of friends for lunch and we all had a 170g homemade beefburger, fries and scrummy sidesalad, then we all shared(3 of us!) one slice of carrot cake. Then, for my tea I had 2 cheddar & blackpepper english muffins toasted with bit of butter, some thin slices of saucisson sec with roqufort, some slices of mozzerella and a small salad of cucumber & cherry tomaotes.
I enjoyed my food today and having the freedom to choose what I wanted with my friends rather than being 'the one that has the salad with no dressing and no croutons' !!! like I usually would have asked for.

I am still, just ssssooo nervous about getting on the scales on Thursday morning............ I'm going through all the possible outcomes and wondering how I will deal with the result.... weight loss/weight gain/same ?????

I HATE the weight I am now, and HATE how fat and uncomfortable I feel in my clothes... I could quite easily become a recluse I think, until I can emerge 3 stone lighter and reveal the new me just like a butterfly!! That's half joke and actually, half serious..... I'm scared about weighing and measuring as I just don't 'feel' any different.... no clothes getting looser... glad I took tape measurement too (I even marked in black marker exactly where I had the tape so I know its going in exactly the same place on Thursday morning!! :D

oooooohhhhh..... well......... and so to bed after a food day to look forward to fast day again tomorrow........... am going swimming at 10am too

night JB x

Couple of things:

First of all - it's not a diet - WOE's not great, but WOL gets my vote every time!

2ndly, If you've over indulged the night before, or you know you're going out for dinner in the evening - simply cut out breakfast and lunch! Sort of an extra mini-fast if you like.

3rdly, Julie, your butterfly comment reminded me of a post on thread number 9 on Mumsnet 5:2 threads, by a woman calling herself Piebaldrider - who is an inspiration to us all:

"Hi just popping to say I’m still around and still on target – sort of. This forum moves so fast now with so many new people, I am happy to step aside and make room for those who are just starting out and need to ask the same questions as all those who went before them.
So how’s it been going? Well unbelievably I have lost another kilo and that must be around a 2 stone loss now. I struggled to get back to 4.3 and have really only just managed 5.2 since Christmas. My calorie intake as always on fasting days has been over the recommended 500 and I would guess its at least been 700 recently but 200 would have been alcohol related. I look back and see I have totally changed the way I do this over the 3+ months and remember how i have fallen off the wagon several times. I am delighted to have lost weight after eating Pizza at work again twice last week ( we don’t eat small portions either). You can’t work for a company that makes the best pizza ever and not eat it when they bring it round. I have had more than my fair share of winter viruses this year but it seems everyone has so I can’t say it’s the woe that has reduced my resistance but I have wondered. I am back at the gym but I don’t do a great deal at the minute just 20 mins cardio and then 10 mins on vibration plates that I still highly recommend to anyone trying to lose weight. I am truly a happier more confident person since I gained control over my body and im still changing my look as often as I can to keep the feeling going. My red hair was very popular and wearing black Jeggings got me lots of comments on how much weight I appeared to have lost. I am not thin ( yet) and still need to lose 2/12 stone to be where I think I should be but every change I make has had an effect on my motivation , confidence and general happiness. Im thinking of using one of those Ferrier Hair colour in a brighter red this time, they are so vibrant they are not natural. My youngest daughter ( aged 28) who has the same colouring as me did hers and I loved it . I feel no hesitation at making such a change and standing out even if others don’t like it. I have always wanted to be more authentic to myself so look out world here I come.
As I said at new year- im sure there are lots of other butterflies around here emerging from there chrysalis and they are just getting ready to open their wings and fly.
Good luck one and all and if you don’t get the results you want then just change something until you find what works for you."

Hi breadandwine - thanks so much for taking the time to post such a helpful note. I have enjoyed reading it a few times now!
And Bee, you are right - I need to have a word with myself and change my outlook (hard though when currently you can only fit into 2 pairs of jeans in your whole wardrobe!) and love myself for doing something about it a bit more.... I consider myself shaken!! lol

Fast day, so far only black coffee, green tea and water and have done a good 30 mins front crawl at the pool - usually I'm ravenous after a swim, but a good strong coffee sorted me out!!
Have already planned my 'meal', a pack of Udon noodles and a dolmio spag bol sauce (350 cals) and a muller fat free greek style coconut&vanilla yogurt (75 cals) NO WAY am I going over my 500 cals today!! ;)

Be back on later,

jb x

just a quick update:- stuck to my plans and had the udon noodles and bolognaise sauce and a yogurt about 6pm - was hungry and ready for it today... that said, If I didn't 'know' I was going to have it, I could have passed... like, if I did say to myself, 'nothing today other than drinks' I would have been able to do it. Reason i say this, is because as I started eating it, I had all sorts of thoughts like 'what else can I have??!!' and I really thought I wasn't going to be able to stop eating once I started, but If I never started, then I wouldn't have had the thoughts........
Oh well... getting on the scales in the morning, and then going to meet my sister and Mum for lunch as its Mum's birthday :D

That's fantastic :)

It really gives you a good boost to carry on when you get a week like that....

Hope you carry on finding it as easy and effective..., I love the idea of 4:3but it isn't practical to fit around family as much as 5:2 - I need to convert my oh - he's sceptical and prefers using mfp to monitor calories instead....

I'm hoping to prove to him this is a better approach for weight management and have family history of t2 diabetes in both mum and dad so want to avoid that if I can....
