Quite excited to be able to put something on this board!

If I am thinking straight, on of the big benefits of IF is reduction in inflammation? So another thumbs up for IF
Please tell me I've made the right connection
Thanks for posting this! It's great!

Yes, fasting is anti inflammatory. Also we are generally advising people to ditch the low fat diet food on this forum, which again is what the doc recommends.

I had heard about the omega 3/6 balance before but not looked into it too closely.

I think the low carb approach has come up a lot on here as high carbs prevent fat burning so it's good that doc is saying that high carbs are bad.

It's a shame I love my cakes so much...but they are made with butter so that's not so bad eh? I think cutting down on carbs as well as fasting is a good thing. I can't manage to cut them out though due to the aforementioned love of cake!
I think what he says makes sense and combining it with 5:2 is another step towards a healthier us.

However, there is always a counter argument:

So make up your own mind. And then, I say, well who is Stephen Barrett to be putting him down as a quack so:

Then ... who wrote that Wikipedia article?

Bottom line is, refined and processed foods are ultimately not good for us so is Dr Lundell wrong for telling us not to eat them? I don't think so.
:victory: Thanks all, so chuffed I made the link!
I think the evidence for dietary fat being a cause of cardiovascular disease was given a hard knock by the observations from the large population study called the Atkins diet that eating more fat and less carbs resulted in better blood lipid profiles, which shocked all the docs who were expecting people to start having heart attacks left right and centre but instead they got healthier!

I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens with intermittent fasting. We have a big population study going on here, after all.

Thank you so much for this link it was very enlightening especially since before 5:2ing I had been following a low fat diet. I have anyway now replaced low fat spread with good old butter & have always used olive oil but it has really made me think about carbohydrates & my daily breakfast cereal! perhaps egg or yoghurt & fruit may be better.
Sorry mistyped should be janeg

Thanks, well spotted. I can't find any scientific publications by him, and his medical license was revoked after repeated run-ins with the medical examiner's board. Of course that doesn't mean that his advice is wrong. As long as it agrees with advice from more reliable sources.
Good post Janeg. I read the comments below too, I thought I was having a deja vu moment reading the article, it sounded familiar then one of the comments mentioned that some of what the Dr wrote was in Gary Taubes book which I read last week. I am a convert, ditched the low fat way a couple of years ago and am now no longer fat phobic, back to basics, well has much as I can and watch the scales dip.
Before the book, Gary Taubes wrote an article for the NYTimes magazine which convinced me the low fat approach was all wrong. By the time I tried a low carb diet, everyone was saying it was "pseudo-science" which really bugged me because, while some of it may be bollocks, the arguments about insulin seem spot on.

it's official: 5:2ing is a verb!
Thanks janeg! His analysis of the problem is compelling, his solution (more protein and animal fats) is more controversial. This seems like a paleo prescription?
Not many on here would argue with this man, thanks for the link, very interesting

Ballerina x
I LOVE this article!! I read it a few months ago and it had a profound effect on my thoughts and assumptions on heart disease and "narrowed" arteries. He does have a fair point, although why is he the singular voice out of all the cardiac surgeons and consultants?
Thank you for the link Julie, going to read it later on.
