Another fitbit fan here. I have a zip and can honestly say that it and 5:2 have changed my life. I got the Zip in February about a month before starting 5:2 and lost quite a bit of weight from increasing my steps and counting calories.
I try for a minimum of 12,500 steps a day but am more happy at about 15,000.
I definitely recommend them

Wow that looks interesting and useful and MASSIVELY expensive!! How do I get a cheap one?
Well...you can get pedometer apps for your phone for free or a couple of pounds if you just want to count the number of steps but with no fancy stuff!
Yes I have this on my phone, but have found I don't always have pockets or put my phone in my bag for safety. The idea of it strapped always on my wrist seems logical, though OH said my every move could be tracked by people other than me ... Conspiracy theorist that he is!
Basically I must mindfully get up off my butt and GET MOVING!
:0)

I have got a fitbit ONE and love it my friend bought a fitbit FLEX and has found flaws with it counting calories when she is say eating meals because of the wrist movement also if your going out and dressing up in a nice outfit not really chic to have a rubber band round your wrist :/
So can fix it round your ankle instead?
Aren't the older fitbits cheaper now? Would an older model be OK for you, @Azureblue? I think I saw them in the £30 region.
Ooooh that's more my price range. Where please?
I spotted this one on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listin ... dition=new
With delivery it is only 2p under £40...but still a lot cheaper than the latest model!

It syncs with certain mobiles such as apple and other smart android phones (not blackberrys) and it also syns with your laptop via bluetooth.
You don't need to have a phone as you can do/read everything from your laptop - mine syncs with my fitbit (clipped to inside of my bra) everytime i open the laptop - no problem!

So, I have been doing a little experiment in the N=1 category for NEAT and Fitbit. I have to say I am QUITE pleased. Thrilled, actually. For the past week, I have been doing NEAT in the form of bouncing on a core ball for about 30 minutes while watching TV. (In addition to the 5-6 miles I already walk daily.) My husband says I look ridiculous bouncing on a ball like a toddler. But, not only did I break a looooong stall. I lost 3 lbs so far this week!!!
I have been walking 5-6 miles for 60 days--46 days in a row and 59/60 days, because on that one missed day I did 4 miles and then fell ill. All that walking and still no change in my weight!!! Just watching the scale bounce up and down with the same 1.5lbs. day after day. Then, I add 30 mins of bouncing on a core ball and BAM a visit from the WHOOOSH fairy! To my husband I say, "Who's ridiculous now, bozo?!"
As far as the Fitbit goes, it often counts the minutes on the ball in the very active minutes for the day. I think that is a stretch since they are probably more like lightly active. I just make sure to get my minimum 10,000 steps in first and then any NEAT/core bouncing is just bonus, anyway. So, no biggie for me.

I got mine off ebay - Fitbit Ultra, which isn't the current model but goes for about £40-45. This comes with a base station to charge it / connect it to a computer wirelessly or by connecting it. A program on the PC uploads data from the fitbit to the web when it's in range.
There is a smartphone app for looking at the data via the fitbit web site which I use. It doesn't talk direct to the fitbit.
The current models may talk to smartphones that support the relevant bluetooth standard. Check the small print, this is far from universal.
The current Fitbit Zip isn't rechargeable (which some prefer) but is the cheapest.
