One year of maintenance done
15 May 2015, 16:58
On 15th May 2014, my trend weight reached my target weight of 65kg, 12 months on, my trend weight is 64.2kg. Despite a year of varying quite a lot my weight has remained between 62.5 and 65 kg. :victory: :victory:

It has, on the whole, been pretty easy to maintain, especially at first when my weight continued to fall, with the lowest I saw on the scales being 62.5 kg in September. Since then it has risen and fallen and risen and fallen but remains below my target. I am not intending to change my way of eating to try to alter things as yet but am waiting to see if the summer brings another drop...perhaps the drop to 62.5kg last year was an effect of the summer. If my weight continues to rise so that it averages higher than 65kg I may have to take action, but for now I am monitoring and waiting to see what happens. I am confident, though, that even if I do experience a further increase, because my way of eating is now so radically different from before I started fasting, I cannot possibly regain 40kg. I don't feel any inclination to start eating breakfast or snacking after dinner or to return to large bowls of pasta or having crunchy nut cornflakes when feeling peckish!! I do, though, still eat cake, desserts and chocolate (though not all on the same day!). Some days I put in a 19-20 hour fast, others will be as short as 16 hours, very very rarely any less than that. Most days are around 17-18 hours of fasting. I no longer panic about when and where the next meal will be coming from, which is a tremendous relief.

Despite all the variations on the scale, my waist size has remained much more stable, going down from 71cm when I declared maintenance to 70, very briefly hitting 69 in September but since then has been 70cm week in, week out, for months.

If I can maintain around my target for another year, the chances of regain are considerably reduced according to the research. After 5 years it is likely that my body will have created a new 'set weight'. So, 1 year down, 4 more to go.
Congratulations @carorees What an amazing accomplishment! You give the rest of us hope that we will one day be where you are!
:victory:
You are an inspiration @carorees and I am so thrilled that you have successfully navigated a whole year of maintenance.....congratulations!

I am one of the returning fasters who totally regrets having taken her eye off the ball so disastrously....but is now back in the swing of fasting & enjoying the feelings it brings....and the shift in the scales/space in the trousers!

Thanks ever so much for your helpful posts...and here's to your next year of successful maintenance!
Congratulations. :like: :like: :like: I am sure the next year will be a doddle. The wonders of windows.
thats such fab news and such a positive message to those of us who are struggling a bit from time to time :like:
Thank you and well done on your impressive year @carorees, I can only hope to achieve something similar {{{+}}} hugs :0)
Congratulations, @carorees! What a great achievement - you are one of the 5:2 'stars' and you give so generously of your time in providing scientific information in a way in which we mere mortals can understand! I'm sure that there are many of us on here who owe you a huge debt of gratitude. Here's to the next year! :victory:
Dear @carorees

You are the pin-up girl for intermittent fasting, especially showing that it can work for those who want to lose (and keep off) a large amount of weight. I have also benefited so much from all the science that you report on, and my knowledge of weight management has increased considerably as a result.

I have no doubts that you will be able to maintain your loss.

Congratulations, thanks and very best wishes for your continuing journey. :)
Congratulations Caroline, I am so happy for you.

You are indeed an inspiration @carorees. Congratulations on your success and thank you for all your hard work on this forum.
Congrats! I'm glad maintenance is going so smoothly for you!
Very well done!!

So other than fasting 17-20 hours a day, how different are your eating habits now? What are the changes you have made that you think have been the most beneficial? or is it mostly about the fasting?

I know you have been a big advocate for low carb, so just how much dessert do you eat now? Do you miss it?

I've been stuck at 50 lbs down, 50 lbs to go for a while. I need a bit of motivation and butt-kicking. although right now what I want most is a nap.
Congrats @carorees. Its s....o amazing that your weight chart has remained so steady in through the maintenance year eventhough you are putting an average in. I only managed to keep on target for 6 months. After Christmas, its been a struggle for me. I keep my two days well but obviously I am eating more than my TDEE other days. Well done and best wishes for the years ahead. :victory:
Congratulations carorees on your achievements of losing the weight and above all maintaining your new much lower weight - just wish a journalist would interview you and the article printed and maybe an appearance on Breakfast TV as you are living proof that intermittent fasting works, not just for weight loss but also for the health benefits. You are truly an inspiration to the many people who look at this forum. :star: :star:
Congratulations Caro. Certainly an inspiration for everyone here both still losing but also maintaining.
