The only thing is that once you get to over 45 then you can look a bit gaunt in the face if you get too thin which isn't pretty and can really age you. I think I'm OK. A few people I haven't seen for a couple of months have commented on my weight loss now so I guess 6kgs has made a difference although I was quite slim even before I started the diet. I don't want to go below 125lbs (I'm 5'8") mainly because I'm 47 and look too bony!
Good luck with shifting those last stubborn few pounds

Hi Franglaise,

I am 50 this year, and I don't believe my face looks too gaunt. Nobody has yet commented on my weight loss either. I am smaller, but probably don't look much different. When I went to the doctor in January, my doctor said I had gained five pounds in a year and cautioned me not to let it become a trend. I'm sure my physician would be pleased to see I have lost the weight. I like the way I look, but would like to lose a few more pounds.

Hi Dominic -- yes, I think the BMI table you posted corresponds with what I said earlier. I am 5'3". I currently weigh 113.6. (This was my weight the day after fasting and in the morning, so probably on the low side.) I hope to get down to 110, which will give me a BMI of around 19.

Hi Rufus - I think it was your typing that was confused, your original message said you are BMI 120 hoping to get down to 119...

That would be my dyslexia kicking in. I apologize for the typo.

Cheers! Rufus

No I really think you are being a bit hard on yourself, Rufus.

I am an apple and as such I lose weight from the bottom up, and yes, I do mean MY bottom so my face is the last place where you would notice any loss on me. This has some advantages over pear shapes who seem to lose weight from the top down so the first place it shows is in their face. There is no perfect solution and if I have gained a few facial wrinkles, well, that to me is a fair trade off for having a healthier, slimmer body.

I agree 100% Ballerina - as long as there aren't too many wrinkles I'd rather have a healthier slimmer body too, as that makes you look younger and fitter. A BMI of 19 isn't unhealthy as a lot of those rather bitter and jealous commentators on the article you posted in the Daily Mail yesterday were saying about Mimi Spencer!

There were some seriously horrid folk commenting on that, why do people have to be so nasty? I suppose others successes make then feel inadequate, quite sad really.

Hi Franglaise - I haven't read all of the replies in this thread, but I'm pretty sure that Michael Mosley's 6:1 regime also involves skipping the odd meal on other days too. i.e. he'll have a 600 cal day and maybe not bother with breakfast on another day or two. This is pretty much what I aim to move towards but I want to get more blood samples taken on 5:2 before I do so that I can ensure that my body is still reacting in a similar way after the change.

Hi ALymoosh
Yes, I think he does skip occasional meals (as do I!) I'm feeling a lot happier about the whole maintenance thing now I have very easily lost the 2kgs I gained after reaching my target. It really is a very easy WOE to maintain forever, unlike most diets!
