Another vote for wine here! I've not given up booze and I probably drink about 2 bottles of wine over the course of a week and I've lost 45lbs since November. Like others have said, I intend to keep this weight off and if I had deprived myself of anything along the way, I wouldn't have stuck to it.
I am still drinking wine, and losing weight. Usually drink at weekends, not on a fast day.
I've drunk wine on my 5 feed days since starting this wol and kept on losing as you can see from my stats. Wine is important to my social life. Some weeks (not many) I've cut the booze and done low carb to speed up loss, which has been effective. Today I've been out for lunch and had a bottle of rose and out for a curry with kobra tonight - still expect to lose this week

Cheers
Thanks pipapelada. I think my lack of success has been more down to my erratic lifestyle recently. I completely agree that we need to think ahead to how we want to live once the weight is gone. So I will continue to have my wine. But cut out the things I can live without. Like crisps! (Gulp!)
Davidf has only noticed his imperfections. As we all have them. On this 5:2 journey haven't we all looked at what we eat/drink and made choices with what we can live without? Everything in moderation I think so long as you now what moderation is.
I have lost weight and continued to enjoy my chilled white. Don't know if it has slowed my weight loss. Probably has but I don't really care. I am going for sustainability not sainthood!
I do still drink wine but as with everything else, I have found my tastes, and requirements, have changed quite drastically since doing 5:2. I now only really enjoy a glass of wine with a meal, I no longer wander around the house aimlessly with a glass in my hand or watch television AFTER I've poured myself a glass of wine and my typing skills have improved beyond belief now that I no longer use one hand to type and one to hold the glass, I can now type with both hands, another great thing about 5:2.

I wonder if David has wandered into the wrong forum, perhaps A.A. might suit him better?

Can I throw this into the mix wine or chocolate. Me first. Wine it is. But not on fast days, as I need and love my food.more.
Another vote for yes. Moderation is definitely key though, but I think that goes for everything.

Remind me of that when I am in France next week, wine, cheese, pate and baguettes.

*sings* these are a few of my faaaaavourite things.

Wine for me too but no, not on fast days.

If I'm being respectfully honest your tone is pretty moralising, and I don't think it helps in the OP's getting an answer to her question - can you lose weight while drinking wine? The answer is patently yes. You may find the road so much harder as not to be worth it if you don't go teetotal, and by your own admission you may have your own issues with alcohol, but many of us don't need to be that rigid about it. It's perfectly legitimate to say that we would prefer to be able to enjoy all the pleasures of life (of which wine is one) while taking perhaps a slower journey to an ideal weight.

It maybe I waded in a bit hard, yes.

I tend to regard food as fuel necesary for the body to function. I didn't mean to moralise, it just seems absurd to me that people go to great lengths on fast days (presumably)and then wack most of it back on the other 5.

To the other lady am I perfect? Since you enquire; no, I'm not.
I know a guy who used his entire fasting day calories on 2 or 3 pints one evening!! He is a bit of an all or nothing type but I guess he got pretty merry on a completely empty tummy!

I love wine, that is what got me into the state I am, and yes it is always tempting to combine wine with a salty snack. Not yet had a glass on a fasting day but I wouldn't rule out a glass of red on a cold evening with some warming soup... hope I'm still doing this by the time the weather turns.

I might well put the same question to you.

It is actually me who can do without it, remember?

I lost an average of 1.7 kgs a week and didn't stop drinking wine except on fast days. I didn't drink more than a couple of glesses (less than half a bottle of wine).
