General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

Hi All - a little while back I reported that I didn't think 5:2 was for me and embarked on the 8hr diet with a promise to report back. Well after some weeks following the 8hr approach 3-6 days per week I am disappointed to say that the results went the wrong way!! Unfortunately I gained a little weight (albeit with Xmas in between) - not sure if my metabolism is just not set-up for it (I was working on a midday to 8pm eating window) or whether I was 'cramming' into the 8 hrs without even knowing it (I might have taken the "eat as much of whatever you like in the 8 hr window" from the book, too literally!). Anyway back to the drawing board and onward and upward…………….:)
Have you thought about trying ADF? Its a great way of controlling your appetite on feast days.
Bean
Hi - remind what ADF is - do you mean back to 5:2 etc??
ADF = alternate day fasting as explained: https://www.fastday.com/fasting/what-is ... y-fasting/
As I think I mentioned on your original thread, 16:8 needs to be every day and even then you may need to aim for a shorter window.

I gain weight if I do too many days with an 8 hour window, maintain on a 7 hour and lose on a 5 hour window. Adjust your window to get the results you want. And do it every day.
@Wilson, my own experience tallies with @carorees, 8 hours would be too long for me unless I was doing some form of restriction. I did both the losing phase, and maintenance, on 5. Having said that, maintenance for me is putting a few pounds on and then losing them again. Your Christmas gain may not have been a show stopper.
