What are the specific vitamins and mineral levels that can be at risk. if we had the list then we can google ways to boost those levels. I prefer vitamins and minerals from food sources not a bottle im afraid as the cynic in me doesnt believe they are actually "real" vitamins and minerals.\

From what I understand, it's not really IF which is the cause, but weight loss (biotin levels low after weight loss), and possibly cutting out too many healthy fats in a bid to lose weight.

I think as long as you eat a lot of healthy fats and biotin-rich foods on your feast days you should be OK, but a lot of us don't necessarily think about balancing nutrients, or worry about eating for maximum nutrition on fast days, or eat as much of relatively high-cal fats etc as we should. When you are trying to lose weight, eating a cake on a fast day is probably more appealing than eating a handful of nuts to most people, but it is important to remember it's not so much calories as quality that counts.

I looked up food sources for bioten. its not a vitamin im familiar with though should be i guess.

Hi @Wolfie. I just noticed your post about cracks in finger and thumb tips. I agree that these are extremely painful. We have been using a product for several years called Bag Balm. It was originally made here in the US to ease irritated cows' udders! I guess farmers noticed that it helped their irritated, chapped, and cracked hands, too. It contains an antiseptic as well as a petroleum jelly base. Here are some references:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bag_Balm
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_sc ... bag%20balm
http://www.bagbalm.com/index.htm

When I get one of those painful cracks, I apply the bag balm liberally with a cotton swab, then a finger-tip shaped band-aid at bedtime. The next day it is almost healed. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 nights' treatment for complete healing. For badly chapped hands, apply and then cover with a soft glove or cotton sock to keep it on and to keep it from staining the sheets.

I wouldn't try it on sensitive areas like lips or any mucous membrane tissues as some customers say they do--the antiseptic, I think, would sting.

I hope you can get a similar product in Sweden, if you decide to try it.

Best, :clover: :clover:

That's funny @Marybeth, my son had a crack in his thumb too and the pediatrician suggested that I put nipple cream (for breastfeeding mothers) on his thumb and cover it overnight - the next day it was fine. Sounds like the same idea as your product for cow's udders LOL.
Oh good, Nicky, I'm glad to know that similar products are available all around the world.
Ate 2 brazil nuts yesterday for the first time in years and in the evening apparently my hair was glowing .. could it have been that instant lol.. actually more likely to be the amazing Moroccan oil hair treatment i used before i went out (and left on for 15 minutes for good measure) ... trick with hair is never ever use supermarket conditioners. Daughter is a hairdresser so thats from a professional's mouth.

Honestly avoided the cheapo supermarket conditioners (personally i think shampoos are less important as they are their to clean and i swear by a cheap tea tree oil one) and the difference to both softness and hair loss is amazing. The hairdressers in the house can explain the problems with the cheap ones.

Reckon it stops hair breakage and loss too
whats the best equivalent of Perfectil in Australia? i looked in a shop yesterday and they were all priced at $40 plus.. and think i better research this
Interesting ... Cow udder cream exists in Australia but not sure of its name but will pop it on this thread when I find out. My skin splits have been less since on IF

Re hair loss I persisted with advice from a herbalist consult added to VitD and biotin the following multi-B, vit C with bioflavonoids, zinc, silica. Changed shampoo to one without the sodium laurel sulphate but only ever used good quality shampoo from hairdressers. All the way along I have been fastidious to eat a very nutritious diet to the point of made from scratch and growing herbs and veg in my garden with no toxic sprays. My fats are also of the good variety with plant majority, wheat and sugar now rare

My hair seems to have started to behave but I did take the pedal of more rigorous fasting regime to once weekly fluid fast of under 400 cals and at least one window fast day. I am maintaining though would have loved a BMI under 25, but concluded listening to my body signals and chilling out where I am the way to go for now. Hair loss was a worry at the time
there's a product in Aus called Moo Goo - my friend and her breast cancer forum friends swear by it after radiotherapy, so I think it's got to be good.
