General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

My hubby has joined me on the 5:2 diet. He was already watching his weight and had successfully lost 2 stone just be cutting down on his calories (men seem to find it so much easier!!!) He doesn't really need to lose any more weight but is embracing the new lifestyle for the other health benefits.
I am lucky that I have a very supportive hubby - so much so that he even made my salad ready for Mondays fast day on Sunday night while I was out.
I agree my Hubby finds. It fairly easy. Doing the alternate day diet . He is also great he does all the cooking , he has done it for quite few years now,
I do any baking occasionally but he does the cooking
My husband was the one who first talked about it and thought it would be a good idea for us to do it. I was actually initially pretty sceptical (fasting? That's like some sort of starvation diet isn't it?!) but we found the Horizon programme to watch online and it totally changed my mind.

He's got quite a bit more weight to lose than me (probably another couple of stone) but he's lost just over a stone already since the start of January (as have I) and we do really support each other when it's tough and we're wavering (yesterday was particularly hard for some reason, and although he could have an apple or a couple of rice cakes more than I could and still be under his allowance for the day - he didn't, just because he knew I couldn't).
My OH did the first two fasts with me but then gave into toast cravings on the night of the second fast! He does need to loose a bit of weight and can easily not eat in the day when he is busy at work (he laughs now as I used to nag him to eat breakfast and lunch and now I am trying to get him not too!)however, his problem is that he will eat dinner at about 7 and then constantly snacks all evening and quite often has toast before bed!

Mind you, annoyingly he did lose 6 pounds last week but was ill for 2 days so I am sure most of that will have gone back on this week! :D
My hubby also on 5:2 and very determined - even tho I have to do all the thinking about what we are eating....it's good support as we are both at home
We started together in January and have both lost weight. Husband only needed to lose 5lbs which he's done. He is hoping I get back my lovely bikini figure I had thirty years ago, so very supportive. Having lost an inch off my waist I'm on track!
We both started together, hadn't seen the TV programme but bought the book. Although I have more weight to lose than my OH, he is losing more than me each week! However, I only lost a pound last week, but had lost a massive 2 inches off my waist. Well pleased with that.
Yes, he decided to join me after I started, he doesn't have a lot to lose, I think he's trying to get his six pack back after living with the full keg for a while...
Yes. We're in it together. Only been doing 5:2 for two weeks but I have lost 7.5 lb and he has lost 5.5 lb. His sense of 'normal' eating on non-fasting days is more generous than mine, so that could explain the difference in weight loss. It is good to have the support and it means that I'm not trying to work to two different eating / cooling patterns so long may it continue!
5:2 is not just about weight loss.
The 24 hour fasts are REALLY good for your digestive and insulin system
the activity while fasting removes visceral fat quicker than anything else.

I am no longer losing weight (OH is) but the fasting will continue, its just the strict 500 calories that will not.

If you have anywhere in either of your families
heart attack
stroke
bowel disorders
then the benefits are far more than weighing in every week.
My husband started the week after me and in 2 weeks has lost 6lb, but more importantly, has started to loose the 'beer belly'. Normally when I talk 'diet' to him he is very sceptical but the day before I started Dr Mosely was on Radio 2 and Chris heard it and brought it up in conversation that night over dinner.

He is looking really great and hopefully will be more healthy on the inside as well.
My husband started with me as well. He's not lost any more weight than I have - and I'm losing it very slowly! At least I have an excuse (thryoid slowing medication). The poor man is running miles on the treadmill four days a week, so he's pretty frustrated. I just showed him the articles cuddly posted about exercise, so he may try to back off a bit. I have to say, the amount of food that my husband considers to be a portion is staggeringly huge. So I suspect his slow weight loss is due to a lack of portion control on feed days.

He's talking about switching to ADF or at least 4:3. We'll see - this week doesn't look good for that, since our son has early release on Friday and will be home by lunch. I try to make this diet not affect our son, as he's only 12 and a perfectly healthy weight (if not too skinny)
Husband and I both doing it, him in support although we both need to lose 2 stone plus. He is also taking statins so should benefit from other health benefits. Weight loss is slow, but not exercising (apart from me doing Pilates). Need to motivate myself to move more. Sadly neither of us has achieved the weight loss suggested in the book (i.e. 1 lb for each fast day). Feel a bit disheartened, but hanging on in there. Have tried most diets over the years and seen a steady weight gain, especially since late forties. Need to crack this, as am aware that the health risks from excess weight seem to multiply as you get older. I managed not to be fat and 40, but was decidedly fatter at 50, now with 60th birthday looming would love to be slim and 60!! Fasting today, but away for weekend, so will try really hard not to overeat then.
Keep at it Hells bells I,m sure you will get there
Hellsbells, the weight loss in the book is 1lb for each week not per fast day...and that is what our progress tracker shows too. There is no way you could lose 1lb on each fast day as you are only restricting your calories by 1500 on the fast day and 1lb of fat is worth 3500 cals. Please see my recent post on how the scales are not a good measure of fat loss in the Frequently Asked Questions board (link below)
