yes and nope!!
Why hello there, TIP. :) Just back from holiday and was informed there had been a change of location.

Hello to all of the regulars here!
Hi Greeneggs, yup, I'm stirring it on this forum now (along with all of my other ones)
Did you have a great holiday?

Laska - that blerdy Koan : when I worked for the Audit Commission, one of the things I had to check was the value for money when it was newly installed.
Do they still call that bit of road 'the motorway'?
Hi all

I registered on here a while ago but lost my log in details so have just been reading :( found them now :D
I did, thanks. :) It was very mellow, lots of lying around and soaking up sun. (Whilst slathered with SPF 50- I adore the sun now that I live someplace where we rarely seem to have it, but it doesn't love me!) Lots of eating as well, though, so I'm happy to be back fasting today.

Good to see you here as well, cats!
Ooh, that reminds me! I haven't taken my vitamin D for several days...I'm hopeless!
Go out in the sunshine for 40 minutes - I dug some veg beds yesterday, ended up in short sleeves, got my vitamin D and exercise while fasting ;-)
Ok, going to strip off my jumpers and go and hang the washing out...achieves Vit D boost, cold hormesis and washing day chores all in one go!!!
Caroline....."cold hormesis" ? :? ..would you mind-I have found thus far that you are much quicker and I suspect, more reliable in these matters than Google ? ;)
Hormesis = that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Cold exposure is supposed to increase heat shock proteins which protect our cells from damage.

Also, look at the thread on brown adipose tissue in nerds corner. White adipose tissue can be converted to BAT by cold exposure.

BAT is desirable as people with more BAT are thinner!
ah yes I'm very aware of how little vit D I get in the winter here. Am back to supplements until summertime.

Just being in the sun makes me feel much better. :) We were out and about today, but I was in a winter coat etc so not much exposed skin to do any absorbing.

(and don't even get me started on the back garden here- "dank" is the best way to describe it. The new house has a nice big sunny garden, thank goodness.)
I cheat - by swimming outdoors year round. So I have a permanent tan and get my cold shock getting in an out every morning :-)

Greeneggs - when do you move?
Swimming outdoors is perfect for cold hormesis! Need your skin to be exposed to temps below 14 degrees C for 15 mins to trigger BAT production.
I worry more about my tan!

And at the moment am sitting here like a beached whale having had a HUGE Indian delivery supper. Yummy. Won't eat for the next 2 days while Husband is away working. Won't need to.
Loved the link to WW recipe cards earlier on...no wonder there was a huge rise in th epopulairty of junk food thereafter.
