Creme brulee is a lovely rich but light custard baked in individual pot's in a baine marie, so that its not quite a hard set custard. That is served cold, but with a caramalised sugar top. If its done properly the sugar topping should have been blasted with a blowtorch or under the grill immediately prior to serving. When you eat it your spoon should crunch through the sugar. I too love creme brulee.

I'm feeling very rough at the moment. I think I've got a tummy bug. I'had rush to the toilet jobby twice today yet I fasted yesterday so there shouldn't have been anything in my gut to cause IBS. Plus I hadn't had any wheat for 2 days prior as well. Off to pick up the kiddy winks, I hope I make it there and back again without any accidents.
Mmmmm Creme brûlée the one thing I can't resist if it is on a menu. I am always quite delighted if I have been out for a meal and it is not on the menu then I can feel righteous. I used to have to include sticky toffee pudding in that list but after months of fighting it I can now do without it. It became very common and you would be hard pushed to find a menu that it wasn't on.
Another Creme brûlée fan here!
Just having a late lunch - marmite rice cakes, hummus, crudités. DH just informed me that he is meeting the children in London (they've been out for the day with their aunt) and taking them to dinner at Giraffe. So, pick and mix - the sort where you raid the cupboards and fridge rather then the sugary kind - for my dinner I think. I made some experimental sweet soda bread as well so am waiting not very patiently for that to cool. It's a recipe I've made before but I've tweaked it to add coconut, cranberries and light brown flour rather than mixed fruit and white flour. It smells fabulous!
@candicemarie the blitzing is cool here My house is north facing so is very rarely hot. The back garden is a blaze of sunshine though, so hanging out laundry has hardly been a chore It's one of my favourite jobs anyway to be fair.
@julieathome most of my household has had a one day tummy upset such as you are describing, for no apparent reason and not all on the same day either. Maybe it is a bug doing the rounds I've had it and it was over within 36 hours but horrid at the time.

Just remembered I am giving blood later. I hope they have my favourite biscuits
@winsome you are lucky being able to give blood. I used to love the good feeling I got after giving and then they brought out the 1980 rule. Since I had had a blood transfusion in 1980 when my youngest son was born they won't take my blood anymore.
@nessie that's such a shame. I know EXACTLY what you mean; I get upset if I miss one session, in I've only missed one since I started donating. Wish I had started donating years earlier though. It was always one of those things that I meant to do and never got around to, until a few years ago.
Just had a cup of coffee and a slice of the experimental soda bread. YUM! Off to do some more cleaning before I cut another slice!

I'm the same about blood donations. I too am not allowed to donate because I was given blood in 1986 after having my youngest. I should think that anyone who doesn't show any signs of Aids or Hepetitis in say 20 years should be allowed to donate. But, there is an even bigger scandal. people with heamacrhromatosis, where they have too much stored iron in their blood, have to have blood taken monthly sometimes, its a very rich blood supply, yet its thrown away.
I didn't know where to post this but just wanted to tell you all and @ballerina in particular that today, I only had one meal and didn't want any more. I had a delicious salmon salad for lunch. It was quite late by the time I ate because I was busy so at dinner time I cooked for the family and didn't have anything myself. I never would have thought that I would be typing those words. Going without breakfast is one thing but dinner???? I am really looking forward to tomorrow's lunch. It will be salad again, not sure of the protein element yet but it will be something tasty. Whatever it is I am thinking of adding pecans and cranberries for something a bit different.
Well done @Wendy Darling thats a bit of a new twist, lunch but no dindins x
@Winsome I used to give blood or plasma, but like@julieathome and @nessie after a transfusion following my hysterectomy i havent been allowed to give..i ask at regular intervals coz it was one good thing i could do..

Well done @Wendy Darling Blimey that's very brave of you and something I've not managed to do, no problems doing my back2back today but only lunch I'm impressed.
@Wendy Darling it's amazing isn't it the first time you eat only once in a day, the certain knowledge that it is not fatal is quite empowering. If I have a late lunch say between 2 & 4 p.m. Then I'm just never hungry again before I go to bed so I get a good long fast in which is great. I am quite relaxed about it all so if I feel hungry, I eat whether it be once or twice a day and I feel fantastic on it.
@Nessie I am so envious of folk who regularly give blood. I'm such a big Jessie that the one time I did it I had to lie down to stop from fainting and I was still only in the queue to register, don't know how I ever went through with it, well done you

Funny how we find ourselves eating in wholly different ways we would never have contemplated now. Well done WD, you've just opened up another option for your maintenance plan.
Mr Winsome is currently 1/2 lb from his goal and well within his comfort zone, so weight wise he's a happy bunny. He has gone from having tight trousers to taking the belt in a notch that he hasn't used for a very long time, in just two months! No more mini-moobs either So as he faces turning 44 next month, he can STILL say he's been a 32/32 trouser all his life I have to say I am enjoying the view when he wears a slim fitting T-shirt again now

Good Morning Chatterers! ...bit wary today after accident prone y'day
Yesterday, i set fire to tea-towels..smoke everywhere and the alarms going nuts
Then i stubbed my little toe really hard on my exercise bike!
Little toe now as large as big toe and purply....can hardly get shoes on or walk....
third thing turned out to be a little old lady who put her walking stick down hard and very firmly on my foot..ouch,it hurt, wanted to take walking stick and break it in two over my knee..am sure i might have done if the stick had gone near said sore little ( big) toe. x x
