I saw him again yesterday. He made a comment about us being very careful now so that we won't worry in the future and I told him the Greek equivalent of "an ounce of prevention..." and he gave me a wonderful smile!!!
He he I'm talking about not eating though...
That is pretty massive surgery your friends dad had just having a valve replacement is big let alone triple bypass, so how is he travelling now.
Good to see you are back on food thoughts as you must be less stressed and worried.

He is doing better today! My spy tells me that he started nagging about going home and about not liking the food which are both good signs, LOL!
Indeed I am less stressed. Time to go back to losing weight!

Great news, I am really happy for you and your friends
My dad, when he was out of the ICU was exactly the same, he couldn't wait to go home and be his old grumpy self, which was a good sign indeed

Its all sounding good!
Since some of you seem to have the experience, what's the situation when a patient like this one goes home?
My friend asked the doctor twice and he said "when the time comes we'll talk about it" but he has to make some arrangements assuming that he can't be with him 24/7.
He is considering a live-in nurse for a couple of weeks or a month. Is that too much?

My dad didn't have a heart surgery but a multiple cancer surgery with 15 days ICU and induced coma. He stayed in the hospital for 10 days I think (after the 15 days in ICU I mean) and he went home after that. In fact he went with my mother to "take the waters" (traduction accurate ? In French it is "cure thermale") for a month so he was with medical professionnals around but not 24/7 as they were in their RV in a camping at 5 minutes of the cure.
Cure thermale is probably more like "thermal cure" or "spa treatment"
I'm next to Bagnoles de l'Orne

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm SPA!!! I'd love a visit.
I'm so glad everything is going so well now. You sounds much more like your old self TML.

Some translations are just nuts....
My parents go way way south as they go in the Pyrénnées to Bagnèrez de Bigorre
Better if he has company until he is confident IMO doesn't have to be a nurse but family is good. He would not be discharged unless everything ok. When in his own space it all normalizes back to the everyday routines. But not home alone early days
Thank you, Gillymary! There is no family, I'm afraid. But a live in nurse is not uncommon here. My grandmother has one (she is bedridden). You see, there are almost zero social services and if the family members work, they need outside help.
