Delighted or Disappointed?

31 posts Page 1 of 3
Hi all

I've been away (off-net so I've a lot of catching up to do on the forum  ), for 3 weeks in Sweden, where I skipped breakfast every day and mostly kept to the 16:8 pattern of fasting. This I reckoned would allow me to join the rest of the group for lunch (with beer :booze: ), afternoon coffee with cake :cake: (or fika as they say in Sweden), cocktails :drink: before dinner and then dinner with wine. :pig:

Weighed in this morning and found I have lost 0.5 kg!!! And my waist has shrunk by 1.5 cm! 8-) This means I've hit my second (first was to get BMI under 30) target which was to get my waist to measure less than half my height. Needless to say, I'm delighted!

I did try to keep my meals carbohydrate light so generally had just one small potato or a small serving of rice/pasta or whatever in order to try to compensate for the cake-eating, but I didn't feel deprived at all.

Vegetables were in very short supply while I was away and back here the garden is overflowing with beans, courgettes, tomatoes etc, so I'm thinking of sticking to 16:8 for a bit longer and having a big bowl of veggies for lunch and then a low carb dinner and a break from alcohol and see what effect that has. I may even continue 16:8 until school goes back and I have to get up at the crack of dawn (so it feels) to get DS off to school. Then it is easy to put in some proper fasts as I don't have to fix lunch for DS and OH so I can skip breakfast and lunch.

Now, off to wade through 31 pages of unread posts  !!!!!!
That's fabulous Caroline- so glad you were able to indulge but still keep some kind of control and enjoy it all!
Win/Win.
Hi Caroline and welcome back!

WOAH!!! Minus half a kilo after a holiday? I gain weight even after thinking of a holiday, LOL!
Well done and welcome back, my dear! You were missed. :-)
Welcome back Caroline & how wonderful to return from holiday lighter than you were :like: hope you had an enjoyable holiday.
YAY! Great to have less of you back! You must be so chuffed. I will wait and weigh for the monthly weigh in as I'm not that brave.
Brilliant result and sounds like a good plan too.
:D
Woooo well done on losing whilst on holiday....quite an achievement!! Also, very nice to see you back on the forum :)
Hi Caroline
Thats good news, congratulations on reaching goals, and demonstrating that we can go on holiday, have fun, and still maintain this WOE.
Very inspiring, 'specially as here in NZ we are just getting to spring and then into holiday mode once our summer comes. Im very inspired by everyones stories of how they have managed on holiday, and how to keep on track.
Shame there was no internet access, Ballerina kept us very entertained with her stories, did yiu meet a Swedish Monsier Toad?

 Lots of frogs and some toads but no monsters, they were all quite small! We did catch a monster salmon (or possibly a sea trout...we have not made a positive ID yet)...weighing 4kg in our nets though! We go to our family summer house on a small island in the Stockholm archipelago, where we put down nets to catch fish to supplement our food stocks as there is no shop on the island and we have to take our (very) small boat on a 4-mile trip across to another island to buy food, which costs 3X what it does on the mainland and the trip can only be made when the sea is calm, so any free food is welcome! We normally catch mainly perch (aborre in Swedish) and some northern whitefish (sik) and also herring (stromming) but occasionally a salmon (lax) which is a cause for much celebration!

There is a lot of wildlife to enjoy, much of it rather more beautiful than toads! This year, there was a family of great crested grebes living in the reeds near the house as well as a mother tufted duck and her 6 babies. The grebe daddy went back and forth all day between the reeds and the open sea, catching fish for the young but in the evenings mum brought the babies out to practice their own fishing, which was lovely to see and v cute when she carried them on her back. The tufted ducks were even more cute but sadly after a couple of weeks mum disappeared, we don't know if she abandoned the chicks or was killed, but the babies were left to fend for themselves. When we left yesterday there were still 6 of them coming out to feed at dusk and looking after themselves quite well but it seems likely they won't survive without their mum's guidance :-(.

OH, who is very into photography, spent much of the time snapping pics of insects, particularly some lovely butterflies which were very keen on the marjoram flowers in the herb patch. Mainly fritillaries but also a very beautiful peacock butterfly.

@TML13 re cold water treatment of sagging skin: I swam daily in the sea (not sure of the temp but it felt pretty darn cold) but no sign of skin-shrinkage...how cold exactly does the water have to be???
Welcome back Caroline! I'm glad you had a good holiday and managed to lose weight ... and waist!
Welcome back we all missed you !!!!!!!!!!
You were missed so it is lovely to have you back and such a lovely post about the wildlife. Also glad that 16:8 worked for you. I'll give you a gold star for that :star: :star:
Well done Caro, so glad you had a lovely time away AND lost weight - what a bonus!! Great to have you back, it's not the same without you here *hugs*
Congratulations! I found my first fast day after a 4-week holiday very difficult but probably had post-holiday depression. Since then, no problems.
Welcome home and didn't you do well? How lovely to know that these things really do work and holidays can be enjoyed with just a little bit of tweaking here and there. Glad you had a good time, it certainly sounds like it,

Ballerina x
