Getting Sweaty! Exercise & Fitness

53 posts Page 3 of 4
Hi Lisa, keep up the good work. My daughter joined a gym about 2 months ago and she was worn out from it, persevered and has so far lost 3 stone. She now does less for the same results as her workouts are more specific. Go you
Hi Lisa... glad you survived and agree that it's probably lack of fitness than the fasting...

I find I'm faster on my bike on a fast day... or perhaps I'm just light-headed so it feels faster... (joking!)

What were you doing at the gym? I'm a gym bunny and I know that we often have new people come in to join a class. Classes are awesome but tough - out on the gym floor, you'll probably do 10-20 minutes. Most classes are designed for 45-60 minutes of relatively high intensity stuff - so the regulars get a good workout. Lots of beginners end up crashing out part-way through the warm-up so stick at it... it will get easier and more fun!
i have braved a zumba session on a fast day this week. I had my tea first - tomato & mozarella salad. It was fine, i had as much energy as normal, although i did notice i got sweaty quicker...
I'm losing the average of about 1 lb/week. I do low impact toning exercises with light weighs twice a week (10 minute solutions beginners toning, the whole DVD not 10 mins) and an hour's LM Core Worx class every week which is but much higher intensity. I'm trying to get back into my old routine of swimming two or three times a week.
I am only 1/4 of the way to my target but I am very much seeing a noticeable difference in the shape of my midsection, very pleased
I'm also intending to walk the kids to school most days instead of driving now that the weather is slightly less horrible, it's just that extra 15 minutes to get them ready and out of the door is often needed!!
I've restarted C25K recently (still in week 1) but at a faster running speed than when I did it last time, so it definitely feels like harder work.
I did a session on a fast day for the first time on Thursday and it was fine. In actual fact I was slightly hungry before I started and by the time I finished I wasn't in the slightest. Sure I read something somewhere that suggested high impact exercise (skipping and running) decreases your appetite?
I'm planning on starting cycling to work again in the next few weeks too (just as soon as it stops being in the minus figures and raining/sleeting/snowing!) which is a pretty good workout at both ends of the day - about a 9 mile trip each way. Never done it starting 5:2 though so will be interesting to see what the ride home is like, seeing as that takes longer and has lots more uphill bits to it!

Do quite a bit of mountain biking at weekends too, although I'd never do it on a fast day as we're often out for 3-4 hours and it can be pretty arduous and I think I'd really flag a lot!!
I've been increasing my walking and I haven't noticed any reduction in my energy levels on fasting days. Earlier this week I set out for a quick walk in the nearby Pentland hills and got a bit carried away: a quick walk turned into 5 hours up and down hill! My stomach did rumble embarrassingly loudly when I passed another walker though..
Being a desk-jockey, I know that underneath all this fat is a twelve-stone weakling, so I do the following exercise on fast days:

Lunchtime - one hour walk (not a stroll, not a march)
Before my evening meal - upper body weights at the gym

I'm increasing the weights over time, whenever the sets seem to get easier.

The fat is dropping off and I'm very impressed with the body that is emerging from underneath. And so is my wife
Living in LA with all these damn cars the only place we get exercise seems to be the gym. I try to get there 6 days/week and always on my fast day (so far so good). Swim 3000 m, run 3K, cycle. Do yoga too for the effect on my mind.
Varying between cross trainer, exercise routines (via YouTube - there are lots) and walking as much as possible. Occasional swim and maybe cycle. Averaging 3 days of real exercise but still trying to go a walk every day if I don't manage anything else.
No excercise for me in my first week.Have lost 7 pounds of water..lol
I run 3 to 6 miles, 5 days a week including Parkrun on Saturdays.
@ BBTO53 my cousin is a keen barefoot runner. This is a link to a newspaper article on his running the Snowdon marathon barefoot. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_west/7692053.stm

I am doing the Couch potato to 5K, just coming to the end of week 6 and I run on at least one of my fast days without any problem at all.
Thanks, enjoyed that. Not sure I'm aiming that high!
I do metafit twice a week, and a kettlecise and zumba class, lost 2lb last weekon my first week, fast on a Monday, have metafit that day.
I've done normal gym sessions so eliptical, treadmill and weight machines. I have also done walking and cycling. I found it easier if anything than a non-fastng day
