100 pushup challenge
22 May 2013, 10:30
Hi all,
has anyone done the 100-pushup challenge? How did it go?

Anyone else interested in trying it? I might start it tomorrow (which happens to be a fast day).

Always been useless in arm strength I'm afraid, so won't even try. But good luck!

I'm up for it. Will do the initial test tonight. I'm 62, do I have the advantage on you age wise ? And today happens to be a fast day for me. Haven't done any push ups for years but I do other exercises so not starting from weak.

Swedey, that's the point! It's like couch-to-5K. start from 0 and get to 100 :)

That's not a challenge, that's a death sentence....good luck :)

All the takers so far seem to be either a)male or b) female with low bmi (much easier to do push ups for both these groups! Seems funny going for it on one muscle group, is it triceps? Like lots of women I have very weak triceps (bingo wings!) so that might be a selling point - if it works biceps no way, I don't need them enough!

pushups are a full body workout. better for your core than crunches (builds long lean stabilizer muscles), plus works the chest, shoulders, and triceps. depending on how you do them, you could get into some back muscles too. also, you can always do knees-down, if that helps. the challenge is flexible - repeat weeks as needed!

for those who are interested, check in tomorrow (or whenever you start) and let us know if you did it? (week #, day #) no need to say how many you did or what level you're at if you're not comfortable!

Seems it exercises the whole body because you are only supported on your toes and arms have to keep a straight body in between. If you follow the link at the start onto WebMd it claims this might be the best exercise of all !

Mrs. H R.
when I did them (haven't in a while)- I liked what they did for my pectorals (really gave "the girls" a boost up)

Could be interesting - will have a go at the initial test and think about starting tomorrow...

Cool, I think there is a few apps out there too. I might use one just to help with progress. But will start tomorrow. Good idea setting this up badzmaru5.

And Bingo Wings are all about the triceps. The best exercise to tone them up is bench dips. The push up, as others have already mentioned is more of a full body work out.

Just downloaded the Android app from the website and done day one.
Have to admit I do "Knee" push ups at the lowest level, still I am a 66 year old female with very weak wrists.

I like this idea. Think I will make it part of my fasting day routine...just hoping it doesn't shred my shoulder which I've had to slowly build up through swimming. Will take it slowly!

I did my initial assessment last night and ready to start tomorrow. Managed more than I expected but hard to imagine I could ever do 100.
