Carol wrote: Hi everyone this is my 2nd fast of week 3 I am doing it a little different as I struggled with Mondays fast, I am skipping breakfast its against all my beliefs but I have noticed most seem to be better saving the calories until the evening, not sure if I will be able to do that but at least lunch time and I will have a cup a soup. Good luck to all those Thursday fasters

Hi Carol, I definitely agree that skipping breakfast is the best way to go. The earlier you eat, the earlier your stomach starts expecting food and it's easier to distract yourself during the day than at night when you're trying to get some sleep!
Hope it goes well :-)

Another Aussie here so it's almost bedtime for me. 4th fast day.

I fasted from 8pm yesterday to 12MD then had 2 rice thins with a little vegemite and some strawberries. Lots of water, some herb tea and 2 black coffees, then my dinner of Veges, fruit, and a soy yoghurt. I'm trying to keep my fast days really healthy as I may as well have a detox at the same time- hmmm, maybe I better ditch the coffee! All good, I did feel hungry from 4-6ish but managed to distract myself.
Good luck everyone. I feel we Aussies are pretty lucky not to be coping with not eating much in your cold snowy weather, well done all the Nthn Hemisphere people!

Today is my 13th Fast - let's hope it's a lucky one! Wasn't sure whether I'd survive it as I had a little too much wine last night, and thought I may need a hangover breakfast this morning, but so far so good...

Happy Fasting!

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum but have been doing the 5:2 diet since 30 January. However, having lost about 5lbs, I find I have now hit a plateau and I have no idea how to get out of it. I am really sticking to 500 calories or under on Mondays and Thursdays and eating reasonably on normal days but I find that whatever I do, my weight always creeps back up to where I was before fasting. Then, after a fast day, it goes back down, and so on, so my weight has stayed the same for the last 3 weeks. I would welcome any advice! TDEE seems to be about 1500 calories and I usually stick to this on normal days. I also run about 2kms first thing in the morning on fast days, without having had breakfast. What am I doing wrong? Thank you... :frown:

I too am fasting today, my 3rd this weeek
No breakfast or lunch for me today and so far so good.
Coffee and water will see me through till dinner

Last Wedensday I overate on rubbish and my fast on Thursday was a nightmare.
Yesterday 1 ate 3 meals with no snacks and kept about 300 under my TDEE and I feel much better today.
Now I can indulge a bit more at the weekend enjoying wine and chocolate without guilt.

I'm excited all ready

Hi :)

Do you have much left to lose? It can come off more slowly as you near your target weight. Or, do you have a lot still to lose? Perhaps the natural variation in your weight is masking the weight loss on the scales.

You may find this topic helpful:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=288

Also, various members have posted about their stalls/plateaus and they all seem to find that after a few weeks it starts coming off again.

Another thing to consider is whether your TDEE has come down since you've lost weight, you may need to re-check this if you haven't recently. As the fast day calories are supposed to be around 25% of your TDEE you may need to reduce your fasting intake, or at least reduce a little on your feed days to account for this change.

How do you do your fasts? 1 sleep or 2 sleeps? How do you split your cals? You may find that if you're having 2 or 3 meals, reducing this could give the loss a kick start.

It could also be that muscle is replacing fat, so although you're losing fat weight, you're gaining muscle weight. This is where a set of scales which measures fat % can come in handy to see how that number is changing!

Hope that helps :)

Good luck to all my fellow fasters today! It's sunny down here in Weymouth but bitter cold and my fingers are freezing. Hoping to have some time to develop the recipes stuff some more today, work dependent.

Another Thursday, another fast day! Have already mopped the kitchen and bathroom and cleaned the bathroom, saving all my calories for dinner tonight, have an innocent pot to try out as trying to vary what I eat on fast days as got quite stuck in a rut! Scales are finally on the way down again after being stuck for a while, but that seems to be how my weight loss goes, so hoping to reach the first stone gone in the next couple of weeks. Definitely have a cleaner house on fast days!

Hello, I am new to forums, so hope I get this right. Have been doing the 5:2 diet since mid Jan and have lost 10lbs in 8 weeks. Really encouraged to read that 1lb weight loss a week is normal. Its better to have consistant rather than rapid weight loss. Have already printed off a lovely recipe for tonights supper. Many thanks.

This my 2nd fast. I found my first one ok but I haven't eaten yet today as I'm simply not hungry! I'm still learning and picking up tips, so keep them coming.

Good fasting everyone

Hello all, hope those overseas have had a good fast day! Just starting my 4th fast today. The first 3 weren't bad, today my brain needs to buck up and get with the program tho. I think a big part of the problem is I went to bed too late last night so I'm tired this morning. I also know I ate way too much the last 2 feed days, which shows on the scale. I know I can't continue to eat so much or I won't lose any weight. I've got to take pizza out of my diet, it's my weakness.

Hello fellow fasters. 6th week and 12th fast for me. I had a nightmare getting into work today due to an accident, sounds like the people involved were really badly injured and they closed the road. 10 mile journey took me almost 4 hours.

Not hungry and going to try to wait until this evening to eat, but might be a late night as I have a lot to catch up on this morning!

Good luck today everyone.

Moogie, thank you very much for your reply, it was really helpful and reassuring.
For those of you who need a good calorie counter for their fast days, I can recommend http://www.myfitnesspal.com. It also shows you your progress and the food database is rather extensive!

Second day fasting this week, third week in (although it feels like I've been doing it longer). Have found that eating my 600 cals just makes me hungrier so am not eating at all for a day. Just lots of green tea and water. Feel light, and quite energetic. Hunger comes but goes away again.
