I canned it the other week and had a small dinner, but only felt more hungry for doing so. Today's been so cold I struggled and was really tired still from a busy weekend, so I dug out a 5:2 chilli from the freezer and had that. Wish I hadn't now as I'm ravenous! Cuppa soup would have been better. Lesson learned for next time - liquid fasts are easier!

I'm very curious to know when the hunger switch is flipped. I suppose it varies from person to person, but I'd still like to hear your experiences.
Last week when I had a 30 kcal cup of miso soup, the switch was definitely flipped for me, and I somewhat regretted drinking it. But Monday I had a glass of half-milk/half-soy drink for lunch (125 kcal) and a green smoothie of lettuce, cucumber and lemon for dinner (55 kcal) and I felt perfectly satisfied. The smoothie was probably more satisfying and filling than the milk.
I suspect the fast carbs from rice flour in the miso soup to be the culprit. The soy drink I had Monday is also sweetened, so maybe that is why the milk was less filling than the smoothie?
That doesn't really jibe with Moogie's hot chocolate, unless it is a low sugar drink? ...It does seem to be very low kcal.
It really would be so much simpler just to not drink anything calorific on fast day, but I'm experimenting this week to see if my reaction will be less negative on the third liquid fast Friday if I do have some sustenance every day.

I kind of pigged out yesterday so I will be fasting with you today.
I was feeling very pleased with myself on monday night as I managed to go through without anything and didn't feel too bad. I did find though that my stomach felt quite sore yesterday - but really only after my evening meal. I'd had a bagel & honey for breakfast, and a greek salad with chickpeas for lunch with a piece of rocky road to follow so hadn't absolutely gorged (I don't call one piece of rocky road gorging!). For dinner I had a veggie sausage & veg stir fry with 2 leftover cheese scones toasted (couldn't eat them all) and a piece of chocolate courgette cake & rasps for pud. Maybe it was the carbs & sugar that made my tummy feel bad, or maybe it was just too much food in one go. I went to bed feeling like I'd completely undone my fast day and now I feel huge again, although I know it's still there (until I *ahem* 'go'). I don't feel like this after a fast day when I've eaten something? Maybe it just takes time for the body to get used to it.
Am fasting today but will probably have dinner. For once I have a couple of ready meals to choose from (never usually eat them but one was in reduced section & I had a voucher for the other). I'll have either m&s chicken jambalaya or tesco pizza (485 cals so pushing it with my milk for coffee - could save a quarter for tomorrow). The other will go in the freezer for next week.
Good luck all
I went a bit overboard with the carbs yesterday too, and like you I felt a bit sore and bloated. I actually measured my waist this morning even though it isn't a weigh-in day for me, and my weight and circumference were nearly the same. I've had carb fests before between fasts, and they've never done me any harm or set me back.
I think the negative reaction our bodies have to a lot of carbs after fasting is fooling us into thinking we've "undone" our fast, but it's really not the case! Remember dr. Varady said most people only eat about 125% of their TDEE when they're compensating for a fast.
What a considerate colleague you have, he sounds very supportive.
Yes, my weight-loss has picked up. I aim to lose half a kg a week, but was losing a bit less than that and plateauing for a while. Then I switched to 4:3 liquid fasts, and so far it's looking good. The libra app for android is predicting between .5 and .7 kg lost pr week if the trend continues. We shall see.
I did weigh myself this morning and rather disappointingly I am the same weight (in my head I must have lost at least 2 pounds I thought!). But I am also doing 5:2 for health reasons so I have to keep remembering this.
Kathryn - interesting what you said about your colleague fasting for religious reasons. I wonder if he's encountered any of the negativity that 5:2 gets. People have no problem accepting that folks fast because of religious or political reasons but suddenly if you're doing it to lose weight or get health benefits it's deemed dangerous or crazy!
This WOL has played havoc with my breakfast routine! I used to get 4/5 of my five a day at breakfast, but now I have breakfast infrequently. And, as a vegan, I have a daily 20g portion of ground flaxseeds for my Omega 3.
If I miss breakfast I still have the flaxseeds - in a little apple juice to create a sort of porridge (which is quite tasty) - in the morning. And fortunately for me, I find that this doesn't activate the hunger switch.
In contrast I've had a normal breakfast today, a couple of hours ago, including flaxseeds, and I could cheerfully attack the packet of ginger biscuits I opened over the weekend. It's only my iron will that's keeping them at bay!
Roll on lunchtime!
I'm in today. The scales show I'm 8:8 today. One pound away friom Maintenence I am really hoping that I will weigh in tomorrow and it will be 8:7. It was the day before yesterday, but then shot up 3 pounds the next day. I'm putting it down to time of the month though because I definitely didn't over eat.
The liquid fasts combined with 16:8 has really worked for me. I'm really not sure wether to drop fasting cold turkey or whether to go back to small 500 cal meals once or twice a week if/when i reach my goal. Any ideas?
Ramadan is just around the corner too and I'm not sure at all what kind of effect it will have on my WOE.
Sorry to ramble but my Internet is very bad here and I'm not managing to get on here as much as I'd like. The sun is out here today, so at least I won't freeze my bum off like I did on Monday!
Good luck to everyone else fasting today
