Not a good idea FatRae because diet coke has artificial sweeteners that I believe can affect insulin/glucose levels. I'm sure others are better informed than me & can offer links in the nerdy section about it! Black coffee is Ok or even with a splash of milk.
Welcome to 5:2ing & hope your fast day goes well!

Ps can I have diet coke ? x

I don't like coke at all, some people say no- others drink it on fast days- I would say if it helps to keep you going- go for it especially if you are new to fasting- you can always cut it out after the first few fasts. There are threads on the subject somewhere-some pro, some anti so as it is calorie free and there are no rules re the info and make your choice.
My Monday fast has hit a bump (again! Third or even fourth week in a row!) as was reminded it's a friend's leaving-the-country drinks tonight.

Now not sure whether to a) try to stick with it and just have no-calorie drinks and no food (other people will be eating so that would require iron willpower); b) go home and have a sensible dinner before going to the pub and having either no-calorie drinks or just a couple of regular drinks; c) abandon fast, have dinner and drinks with everyone else and try to fast again tomorrow.
I'm fasting today too. Last week hubby and I lost our second fast day as we had an unexpected out of town family visit and we got to host dinner at the last minute. So this makes fast #4 for me. I'm hoping for some good results. I saw a nice low number on Tues July 9th and weight has slowly been going up since then. I'd really like to turn things around and get back to (and below) that low number I saw.
I am in today even though I was bad last nite at 11pm. Ate a bag of chocolate donuts that I bought for the family. Too bad I beat them to it! If I eat at 6p would that be a half fast?

Yes me ! Completely new to this day one for me! Cereal and orange juice is all I've had today night shift now though cant wait for grub tmoz!
Thank you for the information every one. Is it true you can do fast days from 7pm till 7pm? I read it on the facebook group n prob is a stupid question so sorry. I haven't eaten since 9pm last night could of been a bit earlier I forgot to look what time but saying 9pm to be safe.

Today has gone really well I've drank lots of water and I am peeing for England mind lol. Not really felt hungry which is a first so water defiantly helps xxx
FatRae, you could do 7pm to 7pm, it would no doubt be better than doing nothing, but I think you'll find that the majority of us eat normally the previous day, go to bed & then on a fast day day eat the 500 cals (or otherwise, dependent on your size) during the following day. Go to bed & then get up the following day & eat normally again.

So, yesterday was not a fast day, I ate & drank normally
Today I have had 500 cals max
Tomorrow I will eat 'normally' again

That actally puts the fasting period at closer to 36 hours

Hope that makes sense.

P.S. why are there SO many food programs on a Monday :(
nickims4 wrote: Oh dear I posted earlier that I was fasting today but since then I've been making my son's birthday cake for later on. After automatically licking the bowl I realised that my fast is just not going to happen today so switching to tomorrow now. First time I've switched mid fast and I'm not sure what possessed me to think I'd cope anyway! Oh, apologies for mentioning cake on the fast thread as well ;)

I totally empathise. I had 200 calories today and then went to a reception where decent and chilled white wine was served - somewhat of a rarity! Three glasses later (hic) but enjoying a light supper and seeing this evening as a wee blip rather than a disaster. Sadly I have another three work do's to go to this week so it may be a challenge but at least I can restrict intake overall and focus on being healthy
Hi all, this is my very first post! I must admit I am trying the 5:2 lifestyle to lose weight. I'd like to lose a stone; I am also doing it to support my husband who wants to lose two. This is the start of week two; I lost 2lb in the first week but then had a very indulgent weekend with friends so put 1lb back on almost immediately!

The oddest thing I have found is that, since I am a terrible dieter and have always failed at other types (where you have to deny yourself good food for more then 24 hours at a time!), whilst I am feeling hungry just now I have absolutely no desire to ruin my fast day this far in. Normally I'd be grizzly and sneaking in a chocolate about now! My husband is a lot more disciplined at this type of thing, once he gets going. Not tonight for me though (and I didn't crack on any of my previous two fast days last week).

Good luck all for the rest of the night - will be back fasting on Wednesday (whilst trying to be good at a colleague's leaving lunch - it's a tough week with birthdays and leaving dos aplenty this week but determined to shoehorn another fast in!)
Yup - fasting too! It's just about 3pm here in Texas... I was so looking forward to fasting today after way over-indulging on the weekend :) Funny that now I look forward to a 'rest' from eating. Never thought I'd say that :)

Good luck y'all!
I'm fasting today, too. Trying to decide whether to have a slice of pizza for dinner to finish out my 500 calories, or have something healthier. We have leftovers from yesterday... I'm so torn!
I'm in! Fasted all day, and about to have dinner with my family.... nothing to eat yet today and doing fine! It's wild just to wait for dinner, I'm liking this way of fasting, hunger switch is in the "off position!"
I decided late last night that today I would try an egg fast or an egg & meat fast if I need something else. I have made it on just the eggs! I had 2 eggs scrambled with 1/2 T coconut oil for brunch and dinner.

I felt like I needed this little extra boost to get back to my low weight from before the holiday, birthday, wedding, houseguest craziness that has been my life for the last two weeks. I'm back on track and may do another egg fast on Wednesday if the results of tomorrrow's weigh in are good.
we did, but it's Tuesday now here in Oz, so all dome and dusted!
