My aunts and ma were slim but my great aunts weren't-but they didn't see that as a problem.

Very windy in Cornwall too, a bit worrying when I was walking the dog past swaying trees. All OK though, they are still standing!

Horizontal rain, gusts of wind, louring skies up here in the North East. Typical November day. And the boiler was off at work yesterday, so today it was thermals, layers, padded gilet, lined boots! :dazed:    (luckily boiler sorted by mid morning :victory: )

Hi all SSS members
When I got up this morning the sun was shinning and i was considering a walk so came on forum to find out what everyone was up to with a coffee beside me, anyway as usual I got carried away by which time it was raining. So my plan B was to make my Christmas cake which I've now done and the smell from the kitchen is wonderful. :cake: :cake: :cake:
However i've just realised that i've done all that on what can only be called ''auto-pilot '' making the same size as i would usually make   yes quite big so now my
Forum Friendly Fasters what do I do next ? does xmas cake the fruity type well could i cut into half and freeze the 2nd half perhaps for a few months so as not to be tempted to indulge in eating far to much of it, it would make quite a good size even when halved and were not partying to much visitor wise this year :like: such decisions I've never made before because my OH will eat the lot if I gave it to him :clover: Sue. :clover:

Hi Sue, I'm sure it would freeze fine but as long as it's not iced or marzipanned (is there such a word?),it will keep for months wrapped in greaseproof paper and stored in an airtight tin. My gran always made her Christmas cakes on stir up Sunday, not sure now whether that was late Oct or Nov, then keep one in a tin 'feeding' it regularly with a little tipple of brandy. Can remember eating them in the summer and they tasted even better!

Is a low carb Christmas cake and Christmas pudding possible? I've seen teeny tiny gluten free ones in supermarkets that are maybe four bites big :0O

@Azureblue Should be if made with less dried fruit and more nuts, very little flour needed. May give it a try.

Hallo triple S's,
I had a fab Saturday at my aunts 80th birthday party, held at my brothers house. Age range 80 down to 5 months, four little 'uns tearing about, masses of excellent home-cooked food, fireworks to round it off.
I got to hug so many lovely people and they're all part of me, so good to stay in touch with family :0D
Though it looks like Christmas Day will be just OH and me this year as everyone is committed to spreading themselves around their 'other sides' for once. Boxing Day, however, will be a maelstrom of hugging {{{+}}}

It sounds lovely Azureblue!
Well it's grey & rainy in Sussex which matches my mood. I'm back from my holiday in Cornwall & at least no longer incommunicado. I fasted yesterday & weighed in today after not doing so for a fortnight & I have gained 14 oz in weight. I feel very disappointed because I did have two fasts & 16:8ed on the other days & whilst I know it could be much worse I haven't yet managed to go away without gaining some weight. This afternoon there will be tea & cakes with my beading buddies & birthday meals next weekend so I will have to really watch what I am eating until my next weigh in day on Saturday but I do enjoy having family get togethers & meals out. I don't think I am going to lose a stone by Christmas now but will keep on trying. Sorry but feeling a bit miserable today.

Yes I qualify at age 62, although I feel much older at times. Fortunately I have good genes so I am told I look younger, especially since I have lost some weight. Must say you all look younger than your chronological age too. But since you are only as young as you feel, I am really trying to stick to the woe. Must stop now as its nearly 11am here.

Don't feel bad, @Isis! Family is SO important. Holidays are SO important. Think how sad it would be to be fit and healthy and have no loved ones to spend time with. I'm sure you will focus on the WOE now, and honestly 14 oz is nothing in the greater scheme of things.

And sticking my head in the door for one quick funny seniors story...

I picked up my daughter's car at the shop on Friday. Actually we, her parents, own it, she drives it and pays for maintenance, insurance, gas, etc - that is relevant to the story.

The shop owner is someone I've known for 35 years - we were both amazed when I pointed that out. I pulled out my credit card to pay and he said "Wendy, I have to ask you, we give 10 percent discounts to seniors over 60.....?"

So I stood there for 10 seconds, frozen, and then, choosing the honest, moral path, replied, "No, I still have a year to go." I hoped he might say, "Oh, it'll be a 59 and over discount this time" but no such luck. And now my poor struggling 20-something daughter has paid for my honesty

Isis said "I fasted yesterday & weighed in today after not doing so for a fortnight & I have gained 14 oz in weight. I feel very disappointed"

Don't be. Really. Two weeks holiday and not even a whole pound gained. AMAZING SWEETIE!
I gained POUNDS but it melted away again after my hols back in June.
Hope it was a lovely break for you {{{+}}}

Thank you Azureblue. I posted whilst feeling miserable & I do know it could have been much worse & when I stood on my scales after getting home I had gained 3lbs but a fast day helped sort that so it must have then been fluid retention. On the plus side it does show that fasting & 16:8 ing on holiday definitely helps
