Re: The 4:3 tent is up.
13 Aug 2014, 05:52
Hello @@Hopeful Steph, another faster from the SF Bay Area, great! I live on the peninsula in Palo Alto. I am in my early 60s and retired and I travel a lot.
I just got back last night from a 3-week vacation and I have wound up back at my starting weight. I joined the forum about two months ago but have lapsed back into my lurking habit.
Starting tomorrow (Wednesday) I will start doing 4:3 again to see if I make any headway. I have found that 5:2 and 16:8 merely causes me to maintain. I too have to work on keeping my non fast day TDEE in check.
Anyway, welcome aboard.

Hey Swan51,
Tomorrow is A DD for me, too...and it is nice to be in sync with someone in the same time zone. All of our friends across the big water are celebrating a successful DD's conclusion just as we face our first milk-free coffee.
Good luck. I did find that, though I am very focussed on results, the truth is that I am also just happier feeling more in control and taking care of myself than I am ignoring the problem. Let me know how your first day goes.

I find super dark chocolate satisfies more quickly. The darker the better. Or, some dark chocolate chips in a sliced banana and toasted feels pretty decadent.

I stopped eating bananas years ago when I was on some diet or other (probably WW) and realized they were 109 calories each! I usually find that 2 squares of dark chocolate satisfies my sweet tooth, but I never have them on a fast day. Weirdly, if I don't eat anything for breakfast, the less hungry I feel.

Oh I'm like you @swan51 if I don't have breakfast it seems easier doesn't it. I mean, how many of us are actually, really hungry when breakfast comes around. Its just habit really isn't it.

Anyway, I wondered if I could join your tent. I've bean a very naughty Bean lately and haven't fasted for a while. Before that I was fasting every other day. This week I'm back with a vengeance BUT should I try 4:3 first...or go straight back into ADF? I just wonder if fasting every other day gives better results than 4:3 but I suspect there's not much in it. It may be easier to have weekends off...but will that then lead to Bean naughtiness?

Only time will tell...

@nursebean, for me ADF would be too stringent, I like to enjoy my weekends when everyone else is off from work and commitments.
My day is just starting here in the west and today is a fasting day.

@nursebean
Oh Welcome beany I also prefer 4:3 haven't done ADF but do like to keep the weekend free to decide just how naughty I want or need to be regarding my meals and wine.
You're doing a great job bean getting back your mojo this week.

Thank you Caroline and @SSure for your advice. Today was a fast day and I had some milo (not quite hot chocolate but close enough) made with water and fat free milk delicious and sorted the sweet and choc cravings  I just made sure I had nothing to eat so I wouldn't go over my 500 cals for the day. I now know what my staple indulgence will be once a day.

@nursebean I was reading your posts on ADF in the ADF Tent and I was extremely impressed at how you seemed to fast every other day so effortlessly while at home. You can do it that's for sure but 4:3 seems to be working so well for so many so am sure you will do just as well on 4:3

Am so happy made it through a very successful fast day yesterday despite the insane hunger pangs. Reading the various posts on this forum helped so much it made me realise its just hunger and yes I live in Africa but I AM going to get food tomorrow….. Only thing is I have realised that every time I fast on my fast day I cannot sleep I fall asleep and then wake up at some ungodly hour and cannot get back to sleep :?:  I exercise everyday especially on fast days yesterday I did 1 1/2 hours of acrobatics quite exhausting hoping it would help with the sleep nothing :curse:

So previously I never watched what I ate on feed days but after reading everyones success stories I have decided that I will not limit myself but will def make the focus on nutrition  I am reaping the health benefits of this WOE now I want to reap the true weight loss benefits.

Just thinking that I like 4:3 so much because it works with my kayaking activities.

I've picked up a couple of musculo-skeletal problems (not kayaking-related) that might reduce my level of physical activity if I have them surgically corrected because the rehab period seems fairly extensive (my consultation about that is the week after next). If I have to opt for the surgery, I'd probably need to revert to ADF as my schedule.

Thanks @skinnili@Sue.Q and others for encouraging words. D'you know...I think I'm going to like this 4:3 malarkey. The thought of not fasting over the weekend really suits me I think. I wonder if my results will be the same as for ADF. Only time will tell I guess.

Are most of you fasting today? I'm looking forward to my Hairy Lasagne tonight with runner beans. I mean I'm REALLY looking forward to my Hairy Lasgne. No really...

:starving:

Hi Beany no I'm not fasting today I usually count Friday as part of my weekend lol and try to get my 3 in Mon-Thurs which yes means back2back but they're no problem to me, this week I did Mon+Wed+Thurs with a spa day in between on Tuesday,
Enjoy your hairy meal I know you will, not long for you now.
I'm making lasagna for later tonight with jacket for OH and extra salad on mine, plus a bottle of red wine to share, have a good weekend enjoy your 2 feed days ready to start again with Determination Day again Monday. :like:

Well done for doing back2back fasting. Very impressive!
