A bit drastic I know peeps! I checked first but I find if I start eating somedays! I just awaken the munchie monster and he wants feeding. Perversely if I decide I shan't eat anything, it stays asleep. I don't do it every fast day, just every other fast day, if you get my drift,
Beanster, I just put a simple graph into an excel spreadsheet and put a trendline in, but you can add it every day to the progress tracker if you want!

Thanks Caroline @carorees for that clarification.
ADF will remain a valuable tool in the armoury, should I ever need it, but I don't want to lose any more at the moment. After all, if I invest in those NYDJ jeans, I want to be wearing them for a while! Are you enjoying wearing yours?

I've been doing ADF since last Monday and so far, so good :) I had a good run at 5:2 last year then fell off the wagon, regained some lbs and ended up on Jan 1st weighing a measly 2lb less than the previous year :frown:

Tried to get back on the 5:2 but I find it tough after years of WW and SW. The fast days were always easy, but there wasn't enough structure to my non fast days.

So far I'm really liking the more cut and dried '500 cals today, anything you like tomorrow' way of ADF. I didn't actually WI last Monday so I don't know how much I've lost, but my clothes feel better and I'm now keeping tabs. Will look for the true weight app as I have an iPhone.

Curiously, when I did 5:2 I ALWAYS just had one meal in the evening. Now, I am finding that following the option Dr Varady gives of a snack and a smaller meal is suiting me.

So far I have observed: less moodiness on fast days, less worry on non fast days, more energy on fast days AND not feeling as cold as I was doing 5:2. I can't get my head around the fact that I am fasting more but feeling less side effects, but I like it!

On the bowel front, I've always been regular but post-fast did have loose and urgent motions sometimes, soon after breaking my fast. I've had my gallbladder out so maybe that has some effect; certainly there are particular foods I've learned to avoid for breakfast! Mushrooms go right through me and make me very gassy, and oats don't hang around either! I have to be careful with nuts too.

I look forward to hearing how everyone gets on in this tent - good luck folks!

I think the frequent fasts mean they are less of a drama. If you use Libra, it tells you your average calorie deficit too, which is very useful. If you start having a huge deficit, then you know to eat more.

Welcome winsome and indeed your bowels too!!!! I was very impressed with Tim's ability to hide the gory details! Yes, I agree with you, I find it much more cut and dried. Just hope it works!

I do 4:3. Is that close enough to ADF to be in the tent?

Actually, given my struggle with the Valentine's Day challenge, I might start ADF after my half-marathon on Saturday and birthday celebrations on Sunday.

In the meantime, i've started using MFP to get a handle on my non-fast days.

Absolutely MaryAnn!! Welcome! And a new week start sounds like a good idea to me. Your birthday celebrations?

Well done PFT for the valentine progress you are making !

Hope you get to buy some very soon

Oh my, its so difficult when you go missing for a while. Anyway, thanks to Tim & Debs and Caroline for setting me straight about the progress tracker. I think I'll start tracking every 2 days and see what comes up. Probably will write down tomorrow's weight (as today is a fast so presumably tomorrow will be a good, low weight).

Well done indeed! @Pennyforthem I'm so pleased you've got to your Valentine's goal weight. Oh and, don't worry, the ADF most certainly DOES NOT mean you have liquids only. Theres no way I'd be doing it if that was the case. No, I agree with @Winsome in that it seems so much easier doing ADF than 5:2. I haven't tried having a 100 cal snack yet (I tend to have my cals in the evening, but from reading the book, I sense that most ADFers have their cals at lunchtime. That would make for a rather long evening...its bad enough when I've eaten at 5!)

By the way, just out of interest...do you guys factor in puddings in your calorie count? Only, I always have SOMETHING after my "main"...such as a yoghurt or chocolate mousse. Is this a bad idea do you think?
