The ADF Tent
27 Jan 2014, 22:57
Ok,
Given that there are now a handful of us, @TBrewerton, @nursebean, @Pennyforthem, and me, I figured a rapidly shrinking ADF tent may be required.
People can share progress, those outside the tent can peek in and see how we are doing, and join in if they wish!!!

I shall start off. I have been doing this a week now and have lost 1.65kg, taking the feast and fast day averages and minusing them all at the end. I had two days where my weight stayed the same, and then this morning it dropped another 700g, and could feel that I had dropped some more when I stood on the scales. Mind you, being up half the night weeing everywhere probably helped!!

Observations to date:
I find it easy to go a whole day without food now, and Dr Varady endorsed this
My appetite has shrunk dramatically and I have bought a lot of food I may not eat
My bowels are a bit all over the place, but you may as well know what you may expect!!

So, there we go!!

As I have posted previously, I did ADF for the first 10 weeks of last year. I didn't find it much different to the 4:3 I moved to then & it certainly got me used to fasting. Make sure you eat enough on feed days tho or your bowels will not thank you...

If I can help in any way shout. Chia seeds would be my top tip!

Am about to go, have been out for the evening, went to see a live link of The Royal Opera House Ballet production of Giselle. Fantastic. There was a commentary at the start about the story and it was sub-titled. The gentleman was going on about how awful the Prince was to poor little Giselle, he was a liar, he had deceived her etc. He then said 'He was a Count' and we all misread the sub-titles, hilarious.

Good night my lovelies,

Oh oh I am here! Hello everyone!

Well I do love camping - not sure you all wanna share a tent with me though haha!

ADF - well what can I say...

At first I was sceptical - I found 5.2 great cause it was so flexible, I could change days around easy no problem at all. With ADF I thought I would struggle but so far I have actually found it easier, I am finding my appetite is shrinking fast, I have to force myself to eat on feast days and on fast days they are becoming easy.

One thing I have found with ADF that I didn't experience on 5.2 is extreme thirst on fast days - I asked Krista about this and she said its because your not getting fluid from your food. Guess that makes sense.

WARNING: TOO MUCH INFORMATION!

I am also experiencing similar weight loss to @Debs. My first fast day was the 21st so this morning marks one week (4 Fast days 3 Feast days) so far I am down 2.3 Kg (around 5 pounds I think that works out at..)

That's close to 600 grams per fast day CRAZY!!

Feel free to follow my journal below

Hello! Thought I'd make an appearance in the new tent. Can I just ask: when you say you've lost 2kg or 5lb ish, does that stay off or when you weigh yourself the next day it reappears! This is happening to me. Sorry I can't get used to kgs yet so I still use stones and pounds. After my first week I'd lost 3-4 lbs. Now I've lost 2 pounds, tomorrow will probably be lower again after my fast today. What am I doing wrong? Am I forever going to be stuck on the same numbers and never STAY down?

Hello Beanlet,
I did some complicated sume, I took an average of my first fast and eating day and the last fast and feast day and subtracted one from the other to get the loss. I am putting the figures in a graph, if you put it in a graph you should see a trendline XX

Oh no! I'm terrible with maths. Have you devised your own progress tracker then, because we can only do weekly on here can't we? Sorry, sounding a bit dozy aren't I.

Morning teeplets!
Bean, why not use something like Libra? It's a free app and it predicts your trendline. I don't use it, but I think @carorees does (or did), plus a few others.
Now, I got hold of the wrong end of the stick (as I frequently seems to do these days!) and thought ADF was just alternate day fasting, 500 cals (or so) every other day. I didn't realise it was a liquid only fast! I take my hat off to you all, but I can't do it.
I probably don't need to anyway, as, of this morning, I'm at my Valentine target weight of 10.7 (and three quarter!) pounds!
I seem to have got my food/eating/drinking/exercise sussed.
Wishing you all the very best of ADF'ing!! Will be popping in to see how you're all getting on though xx

You can add stats into your progress tracker any day you like.

So for each fast/feast day combo you could post the average (meaning an entry every 2 days) if you wanted.

Sorry Bean I don't have a huge amount of data due to being away for work most of the first week and therefore unable to weigh.

For the past 2 fast days the following morning I have been on average down 750 grams. (1.7 Pound)

For the only Feast day I have on file so far I was up 500 grams (1.1 Pound)

That would mean an average loss of 250 grams every 2 days (.6 Pound) Yet I have seen a much bigger loss than this. Some of the first weight loss may have just been water weight etc.

I will let you know what My gain is tomorrow morning as it was feast day today.

@PennyForthem it is just calorie restriction like 5.2 @Debs just decided to take it to a whole nother level haha

Firstly ADF does not mean liquid only fasts, you can have up to 500cal. In the studies, the participants had a single meal at lunchtime.

Second, you can weigh in on the progress tracker daily if you want. I'm going to ask Moogie to remove the statement about weekly weighing from the tracker.

Third, the progress tracker doesn't have a particularly good trendline as it calculates the trend from when you started whereas it's more useful to have a trendline that works on, say, your last week's measurements. The Libra app on android does this and I think the True Weight app on ios does too.

Carry on...
