Re: World cup fiesta tent

Well, it's just one game, but it was sure great fun.
Have not seen the Aussie game live, but read that they did have more of a chance than the result seems to suggest. As the Dutch game shows: it's a funny game and strange things can happen.
As to the Italians: we all know that they will play 3 draws in the first round and still go to the next round, so don't fear them too much.
Why I'm sober? The answer is the answer to the question of our German friends:
After winning the FIFA World cup a Dutchman will get out of his chair and switches off his Playstation!

Found you
Today I'm sad! It was my Dad's 95th birthday on Tuesday and Wed am he was rushed into hospital. They have kept him in, so he is missing the games as there is NO TV in the ward. He has been passionate about football and sports all his life! Snot fair! Good news is it looks like he will be discharged on Monday. I'm SURE they must have a TV for the patients? I'd take my TV in, but I'm 250 miles away today. Dad supported Accrington Stanley as a child (before WW2), Charlton when we moved to Kent. Accompanied my Dad in early teens (my short Crombie and Oxford bags days) as he had two seats in the Directors pen with Preston, when Bobby Charlton was Manager, Nobby Styles was still playing. In those days at half time the women and men had tea and sandwiches in separate rooms - it outraged me! I always stayed with my Dad in the board room - and received wonky looks from the men, but my Dad was great!

So thanks PK-J - I'll have a chilled prosecco with raspberry and pomegranate on ice. That means I need to pop to the shop to buy the prosecco. With you soon!

Sorry ladies. This time Italy won! I am too stressed to eat during the game. I wish there were 2 games a week all year round :-).

Only a game??? (Outrageous comment  )

I was awake for Costa. Rica this morning but was gutted (good football term) that I had a meeting during the England game. Luckily I managed to stream it live on my work phone. How painful was that? I felt we played better than I have seen in a long time but just couldn't get that final goal. And a couple of possible penalties?
I visited my English friend afterwards and we commiserated with English Breakfast tea and Marmite on toast. Just trying to ignore my gloating Scot manager, although he did shut up briefly when I asked him what group Scotland were in.
Trying to be optimistic but we can only do our best which is better than it has been.

Italy, France and our lovely German neighbours: seems like some 'Déjà Vu'. The big question: will our Belgium friend live up to their highest expectations ever? Any Belgiums on the fast day forum??

Oh my I can't keep up!

@Debs are you watching the Scottish independence conversation in the media? I love Scotland  - I know this is a WCFC tent - if they leave the UK - the UK will be heartbroken!

Back to the football, till Wimbledon comes around with a cuppa, sparling and strawbs

Hi there,
@Lizbean, yes, watching football and the media. I saw JK Rowling gave a huge sum of money to the anti campaign. I have followed it with interest as a student of history rather than with any axe to grind, although I did get told off a while back for having an opinion on the matter! Personally I would prefer to see the two countries to stay together and I imagine it will get a bit ugly if there is a split on behalf of the English govt., i try to stick to the more independent commentary!!
